I came of my motorbike the other day, Ouch:( . There was diesel spilt on a roundabout that I didn't spot. At the time I was a bit spazzed and with roundabout being busy I couldn't check it but mate has told me there was definitly diesel going right round the roundabout. I'm not too badly hurt, few scrapes and sprains but the bike has a bit of damage. Obviously I can't tell who spilt the fuel but is there anyone I can make a claim for costs of bike bits? Bearing in mind my only "witness/evidence" available now is a mate who was there 20 mins later.

it happend to my dad 6 years, he was wearing a open face helmet and he said eating tarmac hurts. he had to have 6 stiches. he also said he doesnt think u will be able to claim. unlucky

I had a similar incident involving horse poo on the racing line. Bike was still ridable save for a missing indicator and some fairing damage. However, a warm engine caked in horse crud does pong a bit after a while!

underwhat grounds do you think you could claim?

dont get me wrong i understand why you would want to, (got cault out in the car on a really bad corner once) just dont know if there is an offence?

get in touch with the police and find out if there were any other accidents in the same place. if there was anything reported before your came off you might have a glimmer of hope as the spill should have been cleaned asap. i had the same situation a few years ago, this advice was given by a soliciter - i did'nt have a claim in the end-up and spent £500 repairing a 20mph spill.

Doesn't Diesel melt the tar on the road

When i was down in cornwall last year there was a spill, and they closed the road for 2 days to re-surface it

Surely the person responsible for the spill should report it asap

petrol eats into the tarmac as well. claiming for the damage off someone you cant prove is a non starter straight away. just bite the bullet and get on with repairing the bike.

I'm getting on with fixing it. Was just curious if there was a "oh i feel sorry for you poor biker, it wasn't your fault, nasty that diesel ain't it, here's some money" charity or something!:D

I know I wouldn't be able to prove who spilt it and to be honest it's so common it's probably more than one person. My only real hope would be someone who was meant to clean it up but there's no report of a spill (I didn't report it either). Think it's all coming out my own pocket.

Anyone got a tail unit, front brake lever, indicator, fairing panel, etc etc for a CBR600 give me a shout!

P.S. Bruises are coming up nice, random pain's aren't so good though.
