Hi mate, very interested and curious if you could give me some more info about the kite? I have had a couple lessons over in Perth on a 1m/3m and I think it was a 12m, havent been on a board though - would this be a good kite to pick up the sport from? What else would I be looking at (Harness, helmet, board/buggy etc). Not sure if I want to get into land boarding or kite surfing as yet, most like hitting the water - so to speak. Thanks mate and sorry about the noob questions!

Hi mate, - i wouldnt put this kite in the "new kiter " catgory. it turns very fast and needs to be concentrated on.

you need a board definiently. i have a buggy and stuff but i dont use it much since going on the water - perth weather was made for kitesurfing mate!

If your in WA definitely get on the water! As Grog said, WA was MADE for kitesurfing.

Grog's 9m Link would be a good kite for you in WA as long as your under 70kg. Bundle it with a harness and a ~135-140 twintip board to get your started (with the intention of getting a second smaller board later) and you'll be set. Helmet's are optional. Personally i don't, but a lot of people do.

Thanks for the advice guys - Im actually in Sydney - should of stated that earlier, just had my lessons over in WA - although I may be moving over there in the next 12 months. Im about 65 kgs - purchased my harness, pump, trainer kite and a very large kite (16m - it was cheap as - dont shoot me) last week although need something thats not going to take me to NZ in anything over 10 knots. Would this still be suitable with a 135-140 twintip or would it be better suited to boarding/buggying?

At 65kg i'd say this would be your near perfect daily flyer for most Melbourne/Sydney afternoon sessions. If you were any heavier i'd have to recommend something larger, but with a 135-140 TT you'd be set.

The Link in a 9m should be a good kite for you. Make sure you swap the bridle to the Red one and pull the rigid battons out of the leading edge.

With the battons left in the kite is too heavy and too efficient at the edge of the window. Once they are out the 9m is a good kite and tough enough for any learner.
