Ok, after much debate, much MUCH debate... i think i've decided on the kites i'm going to get to have what i think is a happy quiver... would like opinions so i can stupidly change my mind again and head back to the BOW SLE idea... but i just dont wanna-i'm a foil person and i don't understand all this inflation, assisted launch poop...

So... (i will be surfing and landboarding!) i'm 72 kg,

for light wind i will be using

FLYSURFER SPEED 13m

Problem is, i've not flown one... will this be a good choice for low winds? Everything i've read points me in that direction, i've flown psycho IIs before but hear theyre quite different... anyway, ideas? Was thinking about the 17 but i think i don't need that much for my weight...

as soon as it gets too much for that i will be using

PETER LYNN VENOM 10... or 13

Probably the 13 the more i think about it... peter lynn's really don't have much grunt until it gets pretty windy... but whatcha reckon?

Sounds good to me, not sure which Venom though as you will need someone to tell you your top end for a Speed 13, and you are wise to leave the Speed 17 as it is real light wind machine for us fat boys. Also if you want to progress then you may need a Bow/SLE later and the Venoms & Flysurfers hold there value well so you could trade.

For your 72 kg a speed 13 is a very good choice - the 17 is a tad slow for us lightweights - however the hangtime in 12 - 14 mph is mad.

Remember that flysurfers like fast boards - something like a session 141 would be a great low wind combo - I found the Door whilst having a brilliant low end and upwind performance was too big for me for tricking

You could think of a pulse 10 to go with it - therefore use same technologies - however the vII 13 would be equally good.

I use a Speed 13 as my low wind machine and it feels as big and powerful a kite as I feel I would want to fly. It gets me going (80kgs) at about 10-12mph on a Flydoor. I like it best in the upper teens, low twenties on a smaller board. It is a beast of a kite though and not for beginners. It really does power you upwind like nothing else. You really just have to park the kite and fly it with a bit of depower (plenty in reserve) with the bar more or less fully out against the stopper.

Its called the Speed not because it turns fast (it does not) but because on a plane you just go faster and faster. You really have to work those legs and edge harder than you have ever done before.

Personally, I think you should decide if you should switch between FS and ARC's in a session. If you like foils i have found the Speed 13 and the Pulse 10 (or 7) a good 2 kite quivver. With the advent of the P3 and the S2, you should be able to pick up 2 mint kites for around a grand. Bear in mind the Speed 13 was near a grand when when it came out just over a year ago.

If the Speed 13 will top out at low twenty's then the 10m Venom will start at around 22 knots for your weight, top end will be over 35 depending on your skill level and board. The V13 will be topping out at around 30 knots and starting at 17 knots.

I have a foil quiver - P3 8M and Speed 13m

This combo is great, I used to have a speed 7m but this is in for repair at the moment. The speed 13 is great but it can be a handfull when the wind gets up!

I have had some classic sessions on the 13m speed though!

speed 13 is a great kite, but there will definately be a gap between a speed 13 and venom 10. you need loads for the venom to get you going where the speed 13 at 20mph will definately be a hand full. if you can afford a p3 17, that would be the kite to get. i can fly mine from 10mph and still fly it in 24mph, also much faster turning speed and better safety system(although messy it does actually work). just my thought really

thanks for all the awesome advice...

I would probably not use the speed beyond 16mph, then i would switch to a v1/2 13... They seem to be able to get going on water at about that - on land obviously less...

I'll look into the pulse - i just have a lot of background in peter lynns and so feel comfortable with them in stronger winds...

Oh, and I have an 06 liquid force drop board 136 - do you think that will work well with the speed?

hi domdino, nick here.i have a 13m p3 for sale at the moment.immaculate cond.absolutley no damage, wear or tear.100% mint cond.i have already sold a kite to one of the guys on this thread (distrauss 281) who if i remember rightly was chuffed to bits with his p2 13m.as for the p3,i weigh roughly 14 stone (kg?) and use a 131cm x 39.5cm board.i can get going in roughly14-16mph min with this kite but due to the excellent depower on these kites i can hold it down in approx 25-27mph.could go a little bit more if i felt mad enough.if you had a flydoor you could easily get going in say 10-12 mph and because its a smaller kite than say the 17m speed it will move and turn faster allowing you to go upwind more efficiently.if you do find however that you become overpowered, push the bar away and instantly the power drops from the kite giving you more control and confidence.if you want to know anymore info about this and other flysurfer kites give me a call on 07989 571736 or chat to sven at oceanside. (mine of information on flysurfer kites)

I'm on a V13 and about the same weight as you, and the Venom is perfect in about 18-25mph. I can handle it pushing 30mph. (I'm using a 136 board, BTW)

So sounds like the Speed and V13 is a good mix, unless you want a nuclear wind kite, in which case the V10 might be better.

i get scared when the wind starts getting radioactive-i seriously doubt i would let myself go out in more than 25mph...

thanks again for all the advice... i'm pretty set on a venom for high wind days... will have to think about options as far as the flysurfing goes :)

Anyone got any opinions on my Liquid Force Drop 136?
