toby375 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Hello and merry xmas does anyone know if you can use a peter lynn on a normal lei 4 line bar or what conversion you have to do... Cheers Quote
The Geoff Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Just for flying the kite it should work (although you may have to fiddle around with leader-line lengths and maybe replace the depower strap if it doesn't have enough range) Big problem is going to be the safety. You'll need to find a system that releases onto a single front line like the PL ones. You could probable bodge something together to release on to a rear line instead, but I won't recommend it as I've never tried it and having a efficient safety is kinda important Oh, and merry Christmas yourself Quote
cwatson Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 My mate runs his 10m G on a flexifoil cbx50 (the bar from the strike i believe) and it works perfectly fine. however i prefer the trim strap on the pl bars to the clamcleat on this flexi. thats the only real difference. the depower range is just about the same as when we run it on my zero4 Quote
Neptune Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 just make sure the safety can play out the kite length to allow the arc to fan out when you release to safety. safety line on the front lines works best with arcs. I have used an old cabrinha bar for ages with no problems - just re-did the safety. cheers Quote
john_crossland Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Hi, I use my guerilla with a flexifoil depower bar from an old lei. If you check out http://www.kite-fantastic.co.uk It has a peter lynn specific forum telling you the measurements of peter lynn bars. Basically if you change the deopwer rope along which the bar moves for a longer one so you can push the bar further from you any bar will work fine. I do however suggest modding the bar like this then taking a long time adjusting for best performance. I use a 37cm bar motion (same as peter lynn zero4 bar) with a flexi depower strap, have tied in on the centre line attachment a piece of marine chain to allow a slide for the centre line then i use a ring of nylon rope and 2 stainless bolts to act as a stopper (peter lynns bars use two stainless rings) this works well as a safety. I also prefer to fly on the second knot on the front lines of the kite as it stops the auto stall feature kicking in so much. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j109/john_thefruitman/Kite%20Harnesses/100_0823.jpg Quote
The Geoff Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 As an aside, watch out for the winders on that bar - when Mark Somerville broke his back it was because they got caught in his harness and left him in mid-air with a kite trying to loop when he wasn't ready for it Quote
Joe2003 Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I use a cabrinha bar to fly my B13 sometimes and its fine, It flags out on the outer line like my Z7 bar and is perfectly safe. I took the clam cleat off and put a proper peter lynn one on. Quote
THE SPASM Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I Used a 15m g2 on an airush bar. Worked ok but stalled alot. Not sure if that was just due to the kite. The safety was in the wrong place mind so i wouldnt advise it Quote
john_crossland Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Been using that bar with my kite for 2 years now never had a problem with the winders. Just cos there is one accident with something doesn't mean everyone has to stop using it. My friend fell off a ladder and ended up in A+E with a broken neck. Does that mean everyone should stop using ladders? Rant over, the bar works nicely if i have trouble with the winders ill saw em off. Cheers for the heads up though Quote
payneib Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 safety dosnt need need to be on a front line, any will do just as long as its a re-ride system. this where your saftey leash is attached to the end of a line and when you let the control gear go completely everything goes up that line. i've got an lei bar on my phantom 18m but i cant remeber which one its, ask skintmonkey, he'll know as its his old kite. The Geoff Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Just cos there is one accident with something doesn't mean everyone has to stop using it. Nope, just telling you about an accident so you're aware of the risk Sheesh...... ;) Quote
