Sparkster Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Hi! I'm learning to land board on a 'Kheo Flyer'. I've taken my time learning about the kite ( a 4m Blade II) and the board and am now starting to get moving failry quickly (about 10mph), and thats where the problem starts. As my speed increases so does the wobble and then my stability diminshes rapidly to the point where i have to let go of the kite and role to a stop! If there is any way to adjust the trucks, i can't see it. Any help, tips or advice would appreciated. Many thanks Al. Quote
KermitStu Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 its all part of learning lol you will find the more you do it the less you are likely to get speed woble to get out of it kneel down get a low center of gravity calm down ( as most of the time its your amagination making it happen) and slow down slowly bring the kite to the top or even behind you slightly and if your trucks are realy loose tighten them Quote
sym170 Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 amen to crouching down, saved my ass a number of times, scrubs off speed if your too overpowered, and keeps everything nice and steady. Quote
spooky Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Just checking if your Flyer has elastomers in teh springs? If not get some, scrub ones will do, well worth it. Liek wise what position are the springs in? Trying to remember if they have multi positioning, but if they do, have them set on widest setting, as narrow setting is a waste of time even for light riders. Jon Quote
LoKi_79 Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 as well as tightening your trucks, you also want to avoid going in a straight line. gently carve up and down wind, so that you are always making a positive steering input, rather than going dead straight and allowing the board to decide for itself. Angoose Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 if its all going tits up drag you ass on the floor lol. yesterday nearly involved me becoming friendly with a load of trees but by sending the kite to the top and sliding my arse across the floor i managed to stop and get control. dude the word i think needed is practice, practise and more practise. everyone had the same problem and i still do everynow and then when i stop tihnking Quote

Its down to riding technique - When you start to move faster, DONT ride your board like a skateboard - ride it like a kiteboard http://www.paraflysurf.ch/images/mountainboard.JPG Ride your board like this.... http://www.kitehebrides.co.uk/Images/action5.jpg Get your weight over the back edge of the board... your weight is supported by the kite. Sparkster Posted November 12, 2006 Author Report Posted November 12, 2006 Cheers Guys. I just got in and read your responses and will be trying it all out... Kermit Stu and sym170 - yes the centre of gravity makes lots of sense. Spooky - Yes i have rubber eggs (sounds interesting) and i'll check the spring positioning. Loki_79 - straight line sounds good for a try Ginger boarder- I gave my a kite a 'rest' on the side of a tree last week and then in an attempt to avoid it the next time decided to use my back as a means of slowing down, which worked although i must have looked like a right... thanks again. Sparkster Posted November 13, 2006 Author Report Posted November 13, 2006 Hi! That makes alot of sense and thanks for taking the time with the piccies. You're spot on, i used to skate board quite a bit and i think i'm just trying to skate board behind a kite! rather than kite board. Cheers Quote
louisemarson Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Bit more advice: When you feel your legs going mental, your board wobbling, and panic setting in, do the following: STOP THINKING ABOUT FALLING OFF START THINKING ABOUT EMPTYING YOUR HEAD BEGIN THINKING AGAIN ABOUT YOUR LEGS BEING STILL When I was learning I found that if I just said to myself "Stop being a tit and ride straight" my head would kinda go "Oh ok". Part mental, part physical process. Sometimes though you are just going TOO damn fast! Get your bum to the ground when this happens!!! Quote
