Topper99 Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Ok, here's my dilema. Iv been tracing (what i thought was a 05) frenzy 9.5m for the last couple of days. I then decided that it was a good thing to go for, for the price. Iv just spoken to the guy im thinking of buying from (muffy --> sounds like a top chap) and he's made me realise my mistake in reading 04 as 05! bug**r i hear u all cry! So my question is, having a background of a 3.5 03 bullet and a mk3 4.9 blade, am i going to notice any problems with going for the 04 version or should i hold off and try get an 05 or a Sabre instead? Iv tried to do some self comparisons but having never seen nevermind flown an 05 frenzy & im unsure as to whether it'll be suitable for my needs. Are there much noticable improvements between the two versions of the same kite!? Im a landboarder weighin in at an incredible 12 stone and have been flying for a wee while now. Any thoughts would be helpful as Muffy is waiting on my response. Muchas grassy ass Topper99 Quote
Lem Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 The 04 was a great improvement on the 03. The 05 was more of an incremental update of the 04. It turns better, the bar is touch shorter and it has the leashless safety.. that's about it. Quote
Topper99 Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 So all in all there arent any drastic changes. however the leashless safety is there but i assume if i find this a hastle, i can always change it for a newer one? Quote
scuddasteve Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Go for the 05.. I found it much better N.B check the pulleys near the kite on the speed sys. Quote
Topper99 Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 Go for the 05.. I found it much better N.B check the pulleys near the kite on the speed sys. But is that cos you've tried them both?? Im guessing so. For someone who hasnt, the 04 is still a good kite right? Topper99 Quote
Lem Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 If you can stretch to a 10m 05, then it is the better kite. However, the 9.5m 04 is still a great bit of kit. Quote

Iv just read a review of the 04, apparently its prone to luffing at the edge of the window quite a lot and also on landing jumps, is this the case? Quote
Lem Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 All frenzies (and most other kites) do this is you don't fly them properly. Most complaints about the frenzy are simply due to poor plioting. Quote

Most complaints about the frenzy are simply due to poor plioting. I think what im worried about is spending about 300 quid on a kite which im not going to be happy with. Do you think there are alternative depowerable options out there for similar money or is this going to be my best bet for a good while? The 05 seems to be out of my price range otherwise i would definitely have gone for it, hence my starting this thread. Quote
huester Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 The 05's a big step up from the 04's my 14m 05 turns faster than a 12m 04, but i started on the 04 frenzy's and they are good kites. Just turn a bit slower but their not slow kites buy any standards. The 9.5m a good place to start. Just buy what you can afford. Quote
enterusername Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 same kite new bar to be honest get the 04 and once u have the money u can upgrade the bar. U could even replace the 04 speedsystem with the 05 if u wish but theres readlly no need Quote
enterusername Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 as for different depower options go flysurfers probably pick up a 10m titan for about 300 n there nice!!! Quote
stueyboy Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 The 04 9.5 is a good kite. It's what I have flown for the past year before moving to venomy goodness. I would suggest changing to an '05 bar if you can afford it as it has the new safety release which is excellent. Also, the depower line passes through the bar and allows you to turn the kite much better under power giving the feeling that the kite is turning faster (which it is compared to the same kite on an 04 bar) I moved to the frenzy from a 4.9 BIII so you should have no problems handling the power, just remember to lean back. Also, as Lem has mentioned, luffing is almost always down to how it is flown not how it flies. Quote
Topper99 Posted December 14, 2005 Author Report Posted December 14, 2005 I would suggest changing to an '05 bar if you can afford it. How much are they nowadays? Quote
LoKi_79 Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 How much are they nowadays? i paid £70 for mine at the begining of the summer. i hope they haven't changed much since then if you can't afford an 05 now, then get an 04 and upgrade the bar later. [i still think the 04 is the best looking frenzy!] i'd agree that the bar is the most significant difference between the 04 and 05. however i think the differences in flight characteristics are more noticeable on the bigger kites in the ranges. walty666 Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 the '04 has a leashless safety system as well but the reload system isn't as good. i'm not sure but i think you can buy the '05 safety sytem for about £15 and fit it to an '04 bar. does anybody know for certain? Quote
