as you dont have the benefit of being at the Naish importers beach you are sort of forgiven for being a bit slow! But to be fair there was one at its semi official launch (this is what we are doing styly) at Poole Windfest...which was weeks ago!

I'll be careful so as I dont upset James (expo chat not beach chat) Its not a bow ..its slightly different... it should be better... it has extended bits...

paraphrasing James a lot: there wont be many imported at first so if you want one see your lovely Darkside dealer soon ;0)

ohwell i'm sure many others were unaware too.

bow isn't just referring to the crossbow it's just a general name for all these arse ugly kites. i'm suprised though, this kite isn't the usual naish uglyness. well it is with that awful logo on it :p

yeah you are probably right, but , I thought you had your fnger on the pulse!

I understand that naish havent paid for the license and thus its not a BOW (again expo chat) however, I agree with you it is a Bow! But apparently it isnt!

James ...use a pseudonym and set the record straight dude

well brian you finally dragged me into this.

the shockwave is not a generic BOW design, it was not developed under license form anyone else and was an in house development.

The principles behind it were to create a kite that best suited this style of kite(flatter than normal c shaped kites) which in essence is a wave riding kite. the depower, range and stability that you get from having a simple bridle on the kite, although they do lend themselves to other aplications, i.e beginners it was felt that using them in a wave kite would make more sense.

Afterall we all go sailing happily on our strike2s torch 2s ravens nitros firestorms etc and have a great time as predominently we sail in flatter conditions and want to boost, twiddle and have fun. There was no sense in bringing out a kite that detracted from what people were riding already. The one area where people were finding the limitations of C shaped kites was for wave riding hence the Shockwave.

the kite has a conventional trailing edge, i.e flat not concave like the crosbow which is concave, this in addition to the leading edge that flows all the way back to the trailing edge gives the kite a more ridgid frame work, increasing stability. also as the trailing edge is not concave the span of the kite can be shorter lowering the aspect ratio of the kite making it easier to support the leading edge with a simpler bridle.

yes the kite has the octopus inflation system so it pumps up in one go

yes there is a stopper on the chicken loop so that you can rest the bar against it while you ride and not have huge bar pressure

yes if you push the bar past the stopper the kite will depower totally

yes people who have no interest in wave riding will buy and ride tham because they like the feel of the kite

they will also not be everyones cup of tea, but thats the way of the world thankfully we have choice and the kite market is the better for it.

as for how many will be coming in Im not going to tell you that! but suffice to say there will be plenty out there if you want them in time for christmas. First sizes in will be the 9 and the 12. 7 and 16 will follow after christmas.

as for demos, i will let all those that want to know in plenty of time just mail me.

and as for the colour, its just a kite...

cheers guys

that makes 2 of us then ... cos I dont tend to care what the colour is either.

If the kite works and suits me then that is my first priority, then back up when things go wrong and finally Does it come with a free Sticker:D

***oh my good god I am leaning towards the darkside ...charlie help show me the force***

I tried it and its kinda cool, in a really ****ing weird way, nice to turn and good depower, however when I tried it was on flat water so would be interested to check it in waves. Certainly if you hit waves alot i reckon could be the way forward with a surf board as it has a huge depowerability without falling out the sky.

also good for your weekend warrior who only wants 1 kite!!!!

Luke ..dude ...you might have tried the shockwave but I blagged a really cool sticker off James this morning :)

Cheers for the link to the prices, I was weirdly expecting them to be a lot more. They seem fairly comparable with next years lei prices and although I dont go with the idea that they will replace 3 kites they certainly should replace 2 which suddenly makes them bargain bucket. link to the sonic price list?

Just had a play!

Conditions: Very Wet, According to Bramblenet wind speed 20knots - 35 knots, Seastate very untidy!

Toys: 9m Shockwave and 122 ap kiteboard

In short this is very different to what we are use too.. I was expecting at any minute to be trashed, this is not the fault of the kite, this is my perceptions of what should happen when flying a standard 9m Lei in these conditions.

The Shockwave has amazing depower, amazing lift and float and rides the gusts ...(in fact it eats the gusts and asks for more ...yummmy)

I'm going to have another go (please) and then decide which kites too sell!:D

(James you have shown me the darkside and it is good, scarey but good!;) ...you are an evil man!)
