Iflyablade Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 hey I've started to do loads of DH on my board now but as it's an air-s it's rather flimsy and always bottoms out, anyone know any cheap heavy/stiff deck replacements which I could use with my current trucks and wheels? Cheers Matt Quote
kitesurfa Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 Trampa deck - select ply to suit your weight and will cost about £100 + £5.00 for drilling the holes for mounting your existing truck and bindings. Quote
Howard Marks Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 we have been building custom boards for three years:) www.uaphill.com Get some heel straps too as your feet comming out is really bad for your ankles and knees. Quote
mike c Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Just a thought, but depending on what you end up liking downhill, you may get to the point where you don't like the skate trucks. If you just want to do freestyle then ok, but if you want to freeride, faster runs, boardercross etc. you're almost certainly going to want channels. If you went the trampa route, which is a good idea, the deck would be specific to skate trucks. May be worth borrowing a board with channels for some down hill runs if you haven't already. Quote
Iflyablade Posted October 13, 2005 Author Report Posted October 13, 2005 hmmmm I've checked out that Trampa idea but it's a bit too expensive for my liking!! I'm up for something a wee cheaper. Also I'll for deff be keeping my trucks cos biking's making me too skint to afford new ones!! Any other ideas?! Please?!! Quote
Lofty Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Biohazard Industries sell all thier decks as separates , might be worth a look to get the one you like ? MBS also sell decks separately but these come pre drilled specific for their hardware , however matrix and skate trucks use the same hole pattern so you should be ok , might need new bindings though as drilling MBS decks is not a good idea ! To be honest any of the above decks is going to cost around £100 a pop , and Trampa stuff is far superior to the old Air-s Deck or the older MBS decks try session1.com they do decks only , as well as ridethehill.com , they do Biohazard stuff as well as decks only . spooky Posted October 13, 2005 Report Posted October 13, 2005 Sell your Air-S? As mentioned swapping deck only would not mean that it would be better for down hilling? Also if you are doing some nice single track stuff then channels (or equiverlent) are the way forward? Besides if on SK8 trucks you would need a 15' deck in which case your Air-S is probally about as good as you could get with out going for a Trampa. Besides Trampa deck £105, and you woudl still be left with SK8 trucks, bog standard wheels and naff binding. Sell your Air-S for say £100 and the £105 from getting a Trampa deck, and you are only £20 short of getting a MBS Core 16!! Matrix trucks, ligtweight tires, F2 bindings (not as great a F3's but beter than free flex ones, besides ask shop nicely and you may be able to swap at time of sal eand only pay teh differnc, abot £20) So great for down hilling and still good for kiting with? Iflyablade Posted October 13, 2005 Author Report Posted October 13, 2005 lol spooky I like the logic - but not the money side!! Hmm, I guess I should be looking into investing more into a board then... Quote
