Hi I have an 04 Frenzy 9.5 and I am tempted to updgrade to the 06 10m. I haven't exhausted the potential of the 04 by any means as I'm not that good yet. However, the upgrade makes sense I think as firstly, I was considering upgrading to the newer bar to get the better primary safety system and secondly, I fly at crappy sites quite a lot and my technique isn't perfect so I do find I suffer with the wing tips folding. (thirdly it would be a lovely new toy;).)

By selling the 04 and a perhaps one or two other kites I don't use much I would not have to dip into my own pocket. Should I upgrade?

Do those that have flown the new version think it handles turbulent conditions significantly better? I have flown a sabre which seems to handle these conditions better for example.

Will be used for landboarding and snowkiting. Thanks.

The 05 version is also an option. You can pick em up second hand too.

Was just about to say that. You should be able to get a 05 10m for not much more than you could get for your 04?

If you're flying a lot in turbulent conditions, have you considered a closed cell foil from the Viokite/Flysurfer/Peter Lynn offerings?

I have to some extent - put off the Peter Lynns because of the launch / land issues. Have never had a chance to try a flysurfer or viokite. Which models would be worth considering among those two brands (reasonable lift and good for the snow being priorities.)

Bit big for some one after a 9.5/10m depowerable?

Mike, main differnce apar from the lovely colour scheme :)

Less bar pressure= less strain on the arms, though may feel a bit weird at first? I'm use to feeling the power in my arms when I flair for landing, so caught me out afew times at first.

Turns faster, tad more power.

More stable, tip fold not an issue (not that I thouht it was that bad in first place?) BUT if you do luff/collapse it (messed up on a jump or somthing) it recovers alot easier/quiker. New "slick" material and new bridle layout helps with this.

All in all a nice improvement :) A 06 would be a big improvment over your 04 and if going new worth paying the extra for a new 06 over a discounted new from shop 05.

But if on a budget then a used 05 10m would be the way to go, as it has all the features you would be after.

Have fun, Jon

P.s If you are after a one I may be able to help you out?

Hi Adam, will arue on the wing tip thing, I have seen P2's tucking not in the same way I agree but enough to make to it awkward. IMHO it appears that if not flown powerd up, so internal pressure is not great, that up to a 1/3 of the wing can fold across in a turn, and lays flat across the rest of wing and very hard to pop out, with out landing etc.

Not a critisism as all kites have issues (just a case of which issues you can live with) just an observation :)

Both good kites.

Possibly, although the 13 does have a very large wind range. I can get moving around 6mph (once you learn to use downturns and have a good feel for the kite) and have kept holding on until a shade under 20mph. With more practice I don't doubt I could take it out in more.

The 'grunt' of a 13m can be an issue though - everyone I've leant the 13m to (that usually fly frenzy's) says there's far more torque there - it's just a case of whether you've got the bottle (and the weight) to hold it down. I actually find the 13m psycho 2 far more forgiving than the 10m spirit I had, for example.

The 10m psycho 2 would probably be a better match for the similar size frenzy though. I'd say for an excellent condition 10m around 6 months old you shouldn't be paying more than 500 second hand (complete and including the new centre line). Still aint cheap but an amazing kite for the money.

As for wing tucking - it will happen with any kite, especially when underpowered. Personally I've found the flysurfers to be more resistant as the one way valve maintains wing pressure better than an open cell foil. Anyone who's seen someone launch a frenzy will know if you let too much pressure out of them they suck the top and bottom surfaces together. Of course good technique will avoid this in flight with any kite.
