Hi all,

After having a go for a few months with my Landboard and kite I really feel that Kiteboarding would be more my thing, I really dont want to spend more than £300 for the lot (not inc. wetsuit and bits) What kind of boards and kites should i look for, as a complete begginer??

How would you guys compare the two??

Cheers guys

Well danny i moved over from land boarding and i found the transition fairly hard as i did as you are aiming too spend as little as possible realistically for £150 you wont get a kite that is much good too anyone they tend to be old, repaired and unsafe. People may dissagree but you really have to get a bargin kite for that sort of money not one that is worth that little. As there is a big difference between bargin and cheap, look to spend £200 ok a kite at least and probably the same on a board.

My Arc is going for £150 - 2003 kite but fully functional. Hasnt got the depower of a modern LEI kite but can be used in the interim as a crossover as it can be used on land too :D .... hunting for a sale. Not repaired, damaged or unsafe :)

Dragon Danny I would hold on and you might just get the bargain you were after.

Down at blackpool finals on sat and sun and the was a demo of a globe rider sonic. Believe me this is the future of kitesurfing. These kites make the old conventional shape look preastoric. Give it time and a bet you everything will be this new flat shape. Everyones gonna be after one so you will more than likely see a lot of very cheap bargains on some of the top LEI's.

hope this helps

why don't you look out for a 2nd hand viokite, their build quality is as good or better than flysurfers especially the lineset & bar.the safety has got to be the best on the market.and they're half the price of flysurfers, + there's so many modifications you can do on them that'll give you more depower, lift, a bigger windrange.also each kite zips down 20% so your in fact getting two kites in one.

I can wouch for the build quality of Viokites: my VR is on equal footing with my Ozone Frenzy.

On the other hand, if you are into freestyle then look elsewhere. The better Vios are not about lift, lift, lift. (I know the Protean2 IS all about lift, but it suffers from a number of other problems...)

I disagree dude ... I like the new bow (nexus) style but they are a different kite! I'm unsure even if globe rider are as confident as you as they are giving a 1/3 off the kites at the moment and are only producing 11m for the moment! Naish have one but their UK sales rep says they are more suited to wave-riding and arent actually importing that many. In fact the only company that is biting the bullet are cabrinha and they are just about or have bought out another one. Further more team Cabrinha have had the bows all year but arent using them in the world championships!

On a +ve note I can hold my head up high and say I had a nexus without being ridiculed too much!;) (i mean it is the daddy of the bow ....just imagine 6 years of development and the Nexus 6 or FireNexus would have been amazing! ...ok Flexifoil would be bankrupt)

no bad vibes or nothing and sorry about the slight hyjack this wont take a minute

but do you know why there good a wave riding?

because of the amazing depower! you want to be powered up in the waves for getting you out of trouble but at the same time be able to depower the kite because you cant hold your edge as much!

im ten and a half stone out on a 9m yarga in about 20 25 mph and 11m sonic was out he did say he was a little bit over powered but it wasnt dangerous. then he was out the next day on exactly them same kite and I was on ma 15m slingy.

rumours are that jason furness was checking it out?

anyways its cutting edge stuff but please take it seriously it's the future...

But I stated I like the new bow styly kite and for exactly the same reasons as you do.... depower, safety and windrange. But I'm not going to chop in all my kites just yet. I think every single manufacturer would agree that they need another couple of years of development.

I wouldnt say its cutting edge ...its just different

However, just to sell the kite to you even more ... I was out on the water on a 6m flying up wind and Mark Shinn was on his 9m bow! I was also out earlier on a 12m not overpowered and Mark still hadnt come in! And that was on flat water!

Send your email and I'll send you a vid clip ..if you want of Mark doing his thing on a crossbow and Aaron doing his thing on an Arc ... 1 ex-world champion and 1 world champion ...1 on an arc the other on a bow!
