Howard Marks Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Just a quick one to say thanks for grabbing millhouse! Yesterday at Blackpool a squall hit pushing winds in around 40mph. I dropped my kite onto the 5th line (by just unhooking from the chicken loop) and sat floating around watching the mayhem waiting for it to pass. Several kites were totally released (cough scudda) However Millhouse's release on his Best swivel bar did not pull, if it was not for deej's quick reactions and the fact that he left his on kit to blow down the beach Millhouse would have been lofted big time. Funny though that 3 people that day with best 05 swivel bars had problems with them? All loaded correctly! Nice to see that we all work as a team when the sh..it hits the fan! :) :) Quote
scuddasteve Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Andy, what do you mean... Cough Scudda ???? My BEST Swivel Bar releases worked perfectly.... I did not put the stopper ball far enough up the 5th line.... My Goof. My releases worked perfectly because I release and reload them everytime I clean my kit after a session. I dont really understand your point of mentioning that I released totally and that Kit you sold to people apparently had multiple faliures? Maybe I missunderstand your post.. ??? N.B. well done to anyone that saved anyones ass on the beach during that squall.. And hard luck to tossers like me who didn't see it coming.... Quote
Howard Marks Posted October 2, 2005 Author Report Posted October 2, 2005 Mick and matt had problems then..micks went into a death spin and matt's would not pull. King Nerk has also had problems with his release! You are right though it is a good idea to rinse your kit off after each session, but I forget to pull and relaod the release. I wanted to know if anyone else had any problems with it as it was three best 55cm swivel bars that had problems, even if yours was a user failure. I was not blaming you or trying to give you any s..h..it. You did what you had too and did not endanger anyone else...same with mick...If deej had not been on the ball millhouse would have been doing the same. (no shame in getting rid) Quote
Ted Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 if the **** hits the fan are we doing something that could lose access to the beach? Quote
Howard Marks Posted October 3, 2005 Author Report Posted October 3, 2005 No not really ...if your kit fails and no one is downwind of you (dog's riders etc) then getting rid of a kite that is causing real problems to yourself is not going to get a beach banned! Probably keeping hold would if you made it over the dunes or into the sea wall. Quote
Druncan Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 If it was not for deej's quick reactions and the fact that he left his on kit to blow down the beach Millhouse would have been lofted big time. Oh bugr, sounds fekn scary. Glad no one was injured. Deej, - must have been the practice he had saving marquees on Lewis? But surely not his shiny new LEI kit:eek: Jeez, we we're all set to come over to Blackpool. Just glad we stopped @ Budle. Nice gentle 20-30mph =>16mph solid Sat. Then 16=> nowt on Sun. 40mph squalls would be scary nightmare time. Sad that people seem to criticise so easily. Sounds better to learn from what happened and watch out next time:) Quote
Millhouse Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 Cheers Deej- I definately owe you a beer Yeah it was v.scary- yanking on my safety with all the strength my skinny wrists could muster and it just wouldn't budge not much fun. Funny how my mate who was flying the same set-up as me but on a flexifoil bar had no trouble whatsoever! Just glad to know that theres people out there who care more for others safety than they do their own kit- if Deej hadn't (literally) dropped everything and run to me i'd probably still be floating over Blackpool! Quote
Neddy knacker Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 yer pretty scary wasnt it!! Ai me and deej got spanked as well, spent the rest of the next day outside the BnB we were stayin in, in da car park gettin the bolignese of the spagetti. Still small price to pay, hope everyone was alrite out there on sat? (good to hear this millhouse guy was oK) Out on ma 9m yarga (yellow) pretty powered up. just shows you wat can happen:p Quote
sprogg Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 Good to hear Deej was on the ball. I will get him some beers when I see him in a couple of weeks. Bloody hero that bloke. Top man. Glad to hear all were safe in the end. Reminds us all that we should check and clean our equipment every time. Quote
sprogg Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 I assume that nmeans what is a squall? It's when an otherwise breezy dayy turns very nasty very quickly. One to watch out for especially in the Autumn and winter. Deej is my hero. Quote
