JellyFish Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Just wanted to know what you lot think about the Venom ? I know it's a great kite for landboarding but is it anygood on the water ? Quote
Deej Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Just sold my 16m v and got 14m lei after flying PL's for 2 years, forget it and get lei:eek: Quote
keyrb101 Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 i'm selling my leis inc 14m lei to fund another venom, its all personal opinion. Quote
Coopes Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Went out for the first time on the 13 the weekend, not as low wind as my old Guerilla but still out in 28 knots! that would kill me on my old g13. The 19 is the same, up at 12 knots and still there at 21knots, although my 10.5 stone son on his 115 board in 20 knots on the 13 is scary to see as the hang time is awsome. Quote
sprogg Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Personal choice. High wind the Venoms have it, low wind LEI's. I love the Venom, best of all the Atrcs IMHO. If was in deep water, drifting, and unable to relauch I would prefer to have an LEI to float on. And they make better wind breaks. Quote
Druncan Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Just sold my 16m v and got 14m lei after flying PL's for 2 years, forget it and get lei:eek: Just don't forget yer pump mate 'Cos If i can't fill it with gud wind yer not ganna fly it:eek: PMSL........ Quote
Deej Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 Just don't forget yer pump mate 'Cos If i can't fill it with gud wind yer not ganna fly it:eek: PMSL........ PMSL too, aye its a hard habit to break pumps hey!! Quote
Coopes Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 There all good, I agree with sprogg my ideal qiuver would be high wind Venoms and low wind LEI's, although I would like to try a Flysurfer 1st before I make my mind up Quote
keyrb101 Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 me too, very true though a 16/17 m lei would probaly be better in low winds than my 19m venom but i would have never bothered to pump it up or if low wind kiting often the wind just dies so would have to keep shouting at girlfriend to relaunch lei which she can pickup properly which is rubbish, plus venom just floats when wind drops off and is ready above you when it picks up. whens the 25m venom coming out???????/ Quote
Coopes Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 True, was out at the Duck Pond Exmouth a few weeks ago and the wind went to about 4 knots and the V19 was the last kite up, she wouldn't pull granny off the pot and you had to figure 8 her but like you said you are ready. Quote
jeffsnox Posted September 30, 2005 Report Posted September 30, 2005 I fly a V16 a lot. Land, water and snow. I love it.... but I keep dabbling into the world of LEI because the second hand prices are SOOOO tempting... but every time I try them I come to the same conclusion: 1. Pumping is a pain in the ar5e. 2. They LOVE to fall out of the sky - either by sliding down the edge of the window, or by suddenly rolling forwards and plummeting vertically. 3. The depower is very On/Off - no smooth development of power like with Arcs, Psychos and Frenzies, and if you over sheet (in) they flare and lose a lot of speed. As a result of all of this, Arcs have the BEST feel in the jumps of any kite I've ever flown. If I didn't jump, I would probably rate LEIs at the top, because they're faster in the turn than Arcs... but there's something really specially about an Arc when you jump with it. Not a massive jump, but here's a short vid of me jumping at Westward Ho! a few years ago. I think I'm under a GII-13 or GII-9... http://www.kite-fantastic.co.uk/community/gallery/Westward-Ho/sun_jump I can't duplicate that kind of smooth flight with any other kite type... And the Venoms are the best at it. I wrote an article on LEIs a short while ago: http://www.kite-fantastic.co.uk/lei-impressions/ The current 5th line hype though - I've not had chance to try an LEI with a fifth line on - perhaps that'll make the backache of pumping worthwhile finally.
