Seen heaps of photos of buggies with discs running on the hard packed sand on European buggy racing threads so I guess they are ok on the hard stuff.

Yea i think he borrowed Nigels wallpaper.

but still a nice buggy

How do those disks work on sand or are they only for grassed area's

These are purchased for salt flats for straight line, specifically.

I have access to wheels and tyres from a golf and bowling repair/maint crowd. Their maint guy is on Team Funkie. I will deal with a set of wides once its here.

I havent sat in a buggy with a kite in my hands yet. Thats the easy bit, learning to get going. Then its just a matter of doing laps and laps and laps and laps and laps....

and more laps.

So you coming to Adelaide at easter then we are going to the salt pans

Im letting that download before I hit play JKS, but yep, violent straight line speed yes.

sinbad,

I made a post in the relevent thread that if I could get 2 bums on seats to share the juice, by end of feb, I could do it, plus carry everyones shit easily.

No one replied, and monday night coming, I gotta see the surge for this hernia.

I cant see it being done before easter. But I cant see me making it to SA either unless I offload this engine I have on ebay before then.

why couldnt you have a seat with the ability to swivel left and right of centre in order to counter balance the pull of the kite... No need for weights.

The whole rider cradle area would need redesigning. The seat and siderails would become a seperate entity to the buggy frame and if your a real geek, wack a couple of pneumatic rams in under there which could be operated via a single lever or kick button that you could hit with a quick foot tap. Employ a spring loaded locking device for when you just want the seat centred.

Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Hey NAS .... have ya got her yet ?

I just ordered 3 wheels/bearings ... some side rail covers ... back rest covers ... and seats. But I wont start peeking untill mid March as they are coming from the UK and Europe

From my (limited) buggy experience, I dont think a pivoting seat is a good idea as you need to be able to resist the pull of the kite with your body to be able to generate power and keep things soild .... I reckon having a pivoting seat would make things feel very loose and harder to control, especially steering the buggy with you feet. Feeling like you are 'jammed' into your seat enables you to connect with your buggy and get the wind to the wheels. When you want/need to scrub off speed it is a mixture of kite position, steering and being able to slide the buggyy ... I reckon a pivoting seat would also hinder your ablitiy to slide as a lot of this is created by your body being locked in to the seat and twisting.

But remember ... I am speaking through my arse :D

aint we all... eh..... nah but its a done deal, full race, on standard wheels with change from 2 gorillas plus a 3m2 brooza chucked in. Very happy. Libre arent lovers of custom jobbies in the mail, they do what they do.

Yah ?

Anyhoo.... its a full race and I can diddle around with axles and wheels later, no biggy.

With this pivoting seat... the idea is to be able to twist SLIGHTLY left or right of centre, causing you to face the kite more front on while keeping the buggy aimed correctly....also needing to keep the steering lengths within reach whilst seated off centre ... only have to tilt about 10 or 12 deg..... the weight could be transferred prior to the turn towards the kite, setting up at the last moments for the run in the other direction while the kites high.... geometrically you would move your body somewhat like a one man sidecar rider .... and the seat could be locked either side via lightweight pneumatic rams or maybe springs.... just a couple of concepts we are poking around with. Embryos. Cant say too much about but I can say its a fair dinkum TOP SECRET super squirrel experiment.... but you could steel it if you really wanted to. The seat would lower onto the chassis as a seperate unit and mount to a beefy pivoting point somewhere between knees and the 'slats' maybe....

We're in the design stages yet.

kills the boredom while we wait.

I get me surgery on the 11th march, then im good as new 4 weeks later. Cant wait to be right again.

fair dinkum,

Nas.

Sounds interesting .... clearly your right into it ... makes 2 of us ;)

I have always been one to try and build it from scratch rather than just buy it ... it usually costs more, but you get what you want ... or you get what you thought you wanted .. heh heh heh

I can remember spending nearly a whole summer break (as a kid) making a balsa wood piston engine remote control plane ... not from a box .. from a set of plans ... I tinkered, searched .. fiddled and fuddled .. then it was ready ...

I took it to Bulimba park ... the day was just right, the wind was nil ... I started it ... took off .. and smashed it into a million bits

Lets hope the Buggy turns out a little stronger :D

As for 'project squirrel' .... I cant wait

Happy Days

P.S. Best of luck on the Op mate

once as a kid I can remember sunday arvo one night during daylight savings, we made bows and arrows out of 1/4 inch dowell, screw on dart tips and orange conduit pipe. Down the creek we went. Boof...I let one fly, straight up. and straight down she came, into my mates thigh. Foomp.

Im still haunted by Sonny's screaming.

Oh... those were the days. :D
