oscar? Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Hey guys & girls. Im thinking of starting lessons tomorow or so, but however, im not sure where will be best to go etc. SHQ in Sandringham OR Kite Republic St Kilda. Which ones better, or are they both just as good. Its more convenient for me to go to SHQ as it is up the road, i can also get discounts because my sister is mates with one of the guys, Max, that works there. But i dont want to go there just because i have the chance, i'd like to have good lessons etc. So yeah some help would be awesome, thanks guys. Quote
JKS Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Oscar ..... I have NO idea about either shop so I cant help you there but ...... You want to be comftable with who is teaching you. You dont want personality clashes or ego comps in kite lessons !! Make sure they are IKO acredited Makes sure they are going to show you how to Rig the kite, self launch, self rescue, release your kite and how to self rescue ....... ESPECIALLY a deep water self rescue. Board riding skills are important too ... but you gotta know this stuff 1st Once you get standing you are going to teach yourself how to ride the board .... its a awesome process as you learn, ask your mates, watch the others, watch videos etc ...... but without those point I mentioned you could get yourself or others into trouble. Geesh .......... I'm starting to sound like my mother ... lol I hope you have a win Happy Days Quote
haydenz Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 I learnt from Bryon at SHQ he showed me all those things - either shop are probably just as good, my friend learnt at the kite surfing academy the most convinient one is probably the best both are gonna teach you just fine most likely Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Also ask your trainer for a copy of the "Kiteboarder's Workbook" from the IKO people. I got this one along with the 1st lesson I got from Goshen at kite power. Handy tips in the book. Also helps to have some thing written down as a future reference.
