sn0rkle Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I recently discovered a few closet poi spinners amoung the oxford kiters, and was wondering how many of you guys juggle? Also, this is a fantastic poi book, lots of tricks to learn and there all well explained. Will keep you going for years. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1898591199/qid%3D1124616223/026-5710240-5241207 Have fun! Matt Quote
Wee Andy Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 i do a lot of juggling type things, staff, juggling balls/clubs, poi etc. Quote
Jangla Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 Haven't done it for ages but I've got a brand new set of massive cathedral wicks under the sink - perhaps I should get some practice in and crack them out one day. They should give huuuuge flames  Quote
Adrena1in Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I've just bought a pair of crappy LED Poi off eBay actually. Went to a festival and saw someone spinning some quite short Poi, and I thought it looked pretty cool, and the ones I bought are short. One of the LEDs doesn't stay on, which is a pain, but I'm keen to learn. I'll check out that link... Incidentally, http://www.homeofpoi.com has some useful on-line video demonstrations of some moves. spooky Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I've got some LEI ones, they are COOL. The LED juggeling balls I had at Wallop, well they do smaller ones, whcih fit just right into Persil sacks and attach to the end of your Poi straps. Here's a couple of pics (sorry no where to host them) let down atad by the lack of skils by teh camera person Also a couple of some one who can not do Poi, but colours look nice:) Jon Quote
tiny_clanger Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 I got flag and flame, but no paraffin so havent lit the flames yet - soon, soon Quote
flysi Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 Yeah, a result of too long travelling through SE Asia, have got wicks and practise ends in a cupboard somewhere but havent used them for ages. Will have to have a practise again for a while before I dare light them again. Quote
Jangla Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 If you want to get started with it, a couple of glow sticks on the end of some decent string will do - give a good effect too Quote
sn0rkle Posted August 21, 2005 Author Report Posted August 21, 2005 Ahah! A fair few closets out there.. WeeAndy: nice one, i love staff, definatley my favourite fire toy. any devil stick action? Its mainly club passing for me these days, the only thing thats kept me interested. 7 clubs on 3 count is fun Quote
High Flyer Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Thought I'd better buy my own poi this summer and so treated myself to some at Glastonbury... I was playing with them while Primal Scream were on and then the surounding people started clapping... I thought the band had finished a tune, so I turned round to clap and look, but they hadn't.. Turns out it was for me hehehehehee... Still can't do much but camping this weekend, so they shall be packed and played with! Quote
Jangla Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Had a good refresher session on the weekend at a party in a field (naturally ) and I'm pleased to say I can still do 3 and 5 beat weaves and even 3 beats behond the back Didn't get the fire out though - stuck to glow stick type things for fear of terminally reducing my cranial folicle count too much beer to even think about it. Even taught a beginner to do the weave - wicked! Quote
mmmlordy Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 just bought some poi at reading festival after seeing some girl using the fire poi in the campsite, looked too cool not to Quote
