Off to my girlfriends' parents in North Kent, just outside Sandwich, for the weekend and hope to get some kiting in.

Two questions:

1. Where is the best place to kitesurf in Whitstable and on what state of tide?

2. What excuse can I use to persuade both girlfriend and girlfriends' parents so I can get out on the water?

...................wind permitting of course!

Any other advice on either questions would be great!

Cheers

I've been out at a few places around there.

Whitstable (back of Whitstable Windsurfing) is good - I think low tide is best

Herne bay - eastwards of Whitstable is good is beach isn't too crowded. Definately an around low tide job though. and watch out for muscle beds - nice place though

Sandwich is good aswell - don't really wan't any westerly in it though otherwise its getting offshore - also probably best at low tide.

There is a web site i looked at once, pretty good for the lowdown...

As for the excuse hmmm... not sure - Whatever excuse I use always seems to go down badly. Maybe you could say you have been asked by the BBC to make a documentary about teaching Bill Oddie (from TV's popular 'Badgerwatch' or whatever it's called) to Kitesurf. - how could they not believe that? And who could deny the world to watch as the bearded wildlife fanatic pulls some huge air??

Whitstable can be sailed at all tides as can Tankerton.

Minnis Bay (much closer to Sandwich) takes the same wind directions and can only be sailed up to 2hrs either side of high tide but the tides this weekend look perfect. Westbrook (down the road from Minnis, pretty much same aspect) can also be sailed all tides but the forecast isn't looking too hot for the north coast - SW'ly predicted for Saturday, light N'ly for Sunday

Well you have sandwich bay - best beach of the lot which will take north thru east to southerly winds

to the west Minster west thru north to east

Avoid whitstable.....unless at low tide when the street is in....lots of groynes and crap in the water

thanks for all of you suggestions. The Bill Oddie excuse might work!

Sandwich looks the best option then. Nearer to Staple than Whitstable!

Wind isn't looking too good though. 8mph northerlies predicted. Do you get sea breezes kicking in round the north and east coast?

Where is the best place to kite from in Sandwich? I've been to the town but didn't get to the sea.

cheers

Sandwich bay is great - although it's a private estate so you have to pay (I think £5) to get on. Unless you know the sneaky back way... (which I don't)
