Active-8 Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Anyone played around with these. just flicking around and came across them. http://www.advance-kites.com/offroad.htm are they worth a play with or no not really, whats your thoughts? thanks PPL. Quote
shorty Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 i've got 2 - 3.8 on handles and 5.4 on depower bar. Great buggy engines with minimal lift very stable but do need relatively clean wind. I think they are great kites - well built as well, but not cheap. Quote
Skyhooked Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Anyone played around with these. just flicking around and came across them. http://www.advance-kites.com/offroad.htm are they worth a play with or no not really, whats your thoughts? thanks PPL. i have the 2.4m, 3.8m, 5.4m and the 10m - got to say, that i love them and they are my personal favourite kites:) as said, build quality is spot on, mabye exceptional the offroads dont have much presence in the uk, overshadowed by the leading depower kites like sabres and frenzys etc... which is a bit of a shame as the flying characteristics are very smooth, they are better looking than most kites, powerfull and very rewarding to fly the 5.4m does need cleaner wind, but the others seem fine even when flying inland you can also use them on handles or bar, and as they fly well unhooked they are a great kite to get into depower flying with the price is quite high, but the attention to detail is insane as shorty says if you want a demo, and are ever down in the south west, give us a shout. there definatley is a quality in these kites that is hard to define, but after you have flown the offroads, many other kites are left seeming a bit 'coarse' it should be noted that they get flying in the lightest of airs, always a joy to have a buggy session with the offroads Quote
Active-8 Posted July 5, 2005 Author Report Posted July 5, 2005 thanks for that gents and thanks for the offer. i was looking at the bridle manual on there site, it shows how to change the mains, from handle to bar with the addition of a pulley and extra bridle, is this easy to do out in the feild or is it better done at home out of the wind. come to think of it i was flying there genius on sunday, had the same setup on the main/brakes with the little ring. is this to stop the brake from pulling when flying or is it just to keep it all neat. pothead Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 i got the 5.4 and must say was very inpressed saddly it got to go up for sale soon anyway have a look at these reviews covers just about everything click here Quote
daft mick Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 I have a 3.8 and a 5.4, both on handles. I find them easy to buggy and board with. As mentioned earlier, there is hardly any lift produced by these so you do have a chance at staying in the buggy, unlike with my blade 4.9 . Quality is excellent. I would recommend them for ease of use and stability, but probably not if you want to race and definitely not for jumping/ more extreme activities. Mick Quote
jugglerjon Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Hey up I have a 7.1m Offroad and agree with most of what said already. Great kite, extremely well made. Very stable and predictable in clean winds. Can overfly in gusts but that is easily remedied by pulling the depower bar in a bit (or let the depower strap/cleat out a bit). It will fly well in low winds and feels safe in higher winds 15-20mph. As for lift like said before it doesn't lift much when sat above at the zenith. However if your scootin along at a fair speed in decent winds and go for a jump, you'll go up and it'll be nice and floaty. Make sure to redirect though as it will luff out badly otherwise. Great fun and the depower is more effective than I was led to believe. Play with one before you buy. Jugglerjon Quote
