Just been informed by a council member of the beach that we all use and have been for a few years now that they have found a bylaw stating that wind powered vehicles can not use the beach:eek: , Does anyone know about this bylaw and is there a way to fight it.

A club is in the process of being started and a meeting with the council is being arranged.

yet another famous beach loosing out to the councils:mad:

Who said that?

The councillor?

And you think the police have so much time on their hands that they can chase you down the beach to smack your bum? :D

They may nick you for speeding driving to the beach but thats as much as I suspect they'll get involved.

they might take the registration of the car you get into afterwards :(

however i think a lot of the "bans" are not enforced and just there to cover councils / landowners if an accident did happen! however, don't use this as an excuse to turn up anywhere you like - find out from the locals what the deal is and don't do anything to disrupt any negotiations/campaigning that is going on!

but like you say - who else wants to go to the beach on an overcast, 20mph wind day ;)

Loki,

I have no intention of jepordising talks that are already ongoing with the councils. as for the police getting invloved yes i reckon they would as chasing me down the beach is probably far preferable to solving a crime or catching a rapist.

interesting that if the bylaw says NO powered vechile on the beach they will have to chase me on foot or be in a violation of the same bylaw?

my point does still stand though if you lie and give a falce name and address and have no ID what so ever. are they likely to arrest you and formally charge you for this or will they issue you something more like an ASBO and a fine? in which case the lies will pay off nicely!

If there is a bylaw it should be stated in a place for ALL to see.

If they approach you again, be polite, explain you were not away, and ask which by-law it is and where you can get a copy of it, so that you can inform others to prevent it happening again (Lieing of course :)).

Also ask (again politly) for their name and postion (if they are acting in an official copacity, the will not mind).

I'd be suprised if they had a by-law against wind powered vehicals for teh last few years and it was not publlisised, as while most beachs may have vehical bans (and they always quote definitions as under the Road Traffic Act, so would not apply) wind powed bans have only come in due to specfic issues, ie we kite there and they do not want it, so they would have made sure people were aware??

They woudl not have just thought, I know lets have a wind powed ban, just in case someone oneday invenst a sport using a kite and some wheels??

Apart from that keep flying?

:D :D :D Just returned from a meeting with the local council. The information i was told earlier today has now changed. So as from now we are aloud to use part of the Beach which (confirmed tonight) is not owned by the council. So if anyone does happen to use Aberavon now or in the future the BASIC RULES ARE:

AS YOU ARE LOOKING OUT TO SEA, PLEASE USE THE BEACH PAST THE PROMANARDE STEPS ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. (ABOUT 400YDS PAST) this gives you miles of beach not owned by the council.

wear a helmet

get insured

WOT COULD BE SIMPLER:D

Nice one :)

Out of interest what by-law on their part of teh beach was it?

And Who owns teh bit that they do not????lol

Jon

AS Soon as they said we could fly on the part of the beach which we do anyway i did not get into or care about the by-law, The part which is flown on by the kiters, riden on by the bikers, galopped on by the horses, etc etc is owned by BP, (i am led to believe) and They just dont seem to take interest on who uses there side of the beach.

Even better was when the local council offered to assist me in organising some sort of open day in july, Now where is mr hills No.. Butch wot you doing at the end of july?

THANK FOOK FOR THAT

Just a minor point - if we fly where we normally do, is that OK (i.e. right of the end of the steps) or do we have to go 400 yards right of the end of the steps?

When you say bikers, is that dirt/quad and have there been any issues with them, as not all are sencible/conciderate?

Thanks, Jon

a few months back there was a lot of quad/off road bikes tearing up the dunes. This seems to have stopped lately due to a high number of police raids on the dunes (watched in our amusment)

As for the BP issue i am led to believe it is the oil company as most of it ends on the beach:eek:
