sharpey1 Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 how good are JOJO RM for raceing compare to the razors/pkd of this world Quote
firekarter Posted March 17, 2005 Report Posted March 17, 2005 I recently bought a set of Rms. Used to fly century's before that and they certainly as quick if not quicker. Still getting used to them so i think there's lots more power to come. Few guys use them in the supercup and r doing well . Quote
Mark Rose Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 how good are JOJO RM for raceing compare to the razors/pkd of this world A JoJo 3m holds the world speed record. Thay are VERY fast. Getting the best out of them takes time and practice but when you get them flying well you will compete with the razor and century. The newer ones are a little easier to get on with and are doing well in europe. Size for size there is more power in the RM. The RM + is designed to be flown bigger making it more stable in higher wind. In short,if you fly the RM well it will live with anything. Quote
Mark Rose Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Mark, your new sig rules! pmsl... lol.thanks morb, lets see how long it lasts. Quote
8015 Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 RMs are awesomely fast kites, which means they take some getting used to. There are only a handful of us really using them in this country and most of us haven't completely got the knack yet, maybe never will, which is probably why they don't have a higher profile. If you check european race results you will find the story very different to the UK and JoJo's feature a lot. RMs will allow you to get a better angle upwind than either razors or centuries, or pretty much anything, but you have to work them a bit because if you try and hold them still they overfly. They are as fast as razors on the reach, probably faster. Downwind they are a real nightmare and it takes a lot of practise to keep them in the air when going downwind. So better than other kites upwind and accross, worse downwind. If you want to go really fast on the beach, especially racing, and have plenty of time to practise, get RMs. If you want to mess around on grass or inland in crappy conditions forget it, a century will stay in the air better, although the new RM+ should be good if you can afford them (ditto Nitros). Mouthwash Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 a century will stay in the air better, although the new RM+ should be good if you can afford them (ditto Nitros). JIM Hi Jim, I'd heard all the U Turn team had sacked the Nitro and gone Bora? Chris Quote
8015 Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I heard something like that too, but any time I've flown Nitros I have found them amazing. Bill was using a 12.2m Nitro on Saturday in around 2mph of wind and cruising at around 15mph on apparant wind only. Turning the buggy was a nightmare as he lost apparant wind but the kite seemed easier to fly than my 11m razor. The 9.7m Nitro had more grunt than my 11m razor and Bill was overtaking a 12m RM+ with it. I don't know the reason why the team may have quit, the kites are not necessarily the reason, there may be politics or money involved. Team Barracuda in the UK are flying Nitro's, some of them have Oxigen+ as well for crappy conditions. I quite like Nitros becasue I find them relatively easy to fly, and fast, but I am still in awe at the raw power in the old RMs and I reckon I am better off honing my skills with them now that I can make a credible attempt to fly them JIM Quote

trebor Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Am i getting deja vu? :D For what it's worth i board with the 2 and 4m RM every now and again, what was the line in that tune a few years back ? - " do one thing each day that scares you", that'll do the trick nicely then:) Awesome potential, and you'll have trouble finding a kite that cuts the air as cleanly. Mark Rose Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 There are lots of new race kites around, some known about, some not. Quote

So i need to get some / alot of air time in with it. But i think am going to enjoy flying it. Its big but does fly fast ( relative ) and turns quit easy. I did strugle to fly it sometimes after it fell out of the sky , but then i soon realised the wind speed was ZERO ! Awesome kite. Quote
Mouthwash Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Glad to hear the Nitro's are doing well, I couldn't understand why the team sacked it, obviously wasn't about the kites. My Oxigen Pro's are fantastic, love them to bits!! They're nearly there with the race kites, faster than the rest and soo stable:D:D. Quote
8015 Posted March 24, 2005 Report Posted March 24, 2005 Further to the above, the U-turn team have not quit. One member has quit due to personal differences. To quote what U-turn UK have advised me on this: "Kalle Biester, has gone to Libre but all other team members remain and another pilot has already been appointed to replace Kalle, who of course has a history of falling out with people and is now with his 4th manufacturer in 5 or 6 years." Anyone who has flown the kites will know why the original rumour didn't ring true anyway. If you have heard any more rumours let me know and I'll bust them if they aren't true. You may want to pass this on to wherever you picked the rumour up from. So back to RM's.... JIM Quote
jonnyb Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Flew my new JOJO 10m RM first time today, after getting it from Mark Kite Boy. What can't i say about this kite, i have always flown JOJO's, RS and RM+'s, so was expecting a typical JOJO, especially in the lumpy 5-7mph wind. Kite behaved perfectly, could not beleive the power difference between this one and the 7mRM+. Spent all day motoring at some decent speed up and down the beach. Cheers Mark for a Cracking Kite. Sir Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 What about the new Ozone yakuza thingy me bob ? I want a new light wind kite and am thinking razor ! Anyone want to get rid of theirs ? Quote
