i would just like to take the time tell you all about my recetent day with the blade!!!!

I was at the west sands in st andrews and having a lot of fun with the 3m sami but decided to get the 4.9 blade out. It was flying fine for about 20 mins but then all of a sudden a gust pulled me right off the ground and dumped me straight back down. I landed bad and snapped my femur. I've spent the last 9 days in hospital in dundee with the parents having to travel from glasgow to visit. They put in a 38cm steel pin in me femr so its all good now. Its gonna be a long time before im walking and flying again.

Just a quick word of warning.......TAKE CARE WITH THE 4.9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucky I haven't got the 4.9m then!

I should be ok with the 6.6m b3........

Good luck with the leg, just wait til you have the cast taken off and you have one normal leg and one scrawny twig! I busted my ankle a few years back (not from kiting though)

That's a big Ouch!

Real big bumm.r on the flying. Had a similar incident where I was hooked in resting with my BladeI 4.9 and was boosted so I was looking down at the top of the goalposts but managed to spring land go forward onto me knee pads. Mean machines that can catch you out when not looking.

get well and flying soon

Commiserations for having to suffer Ninewells, the leg thing sounds nasty to ;) The guys on the (old) St Andrews were asking for you. Pop along to the new St Andrews thread and try claiming a free prescription for Jaffa Cakes.

Take it easy and do what nursey says.

This is mainly due to the fact that the 4.9 is one of the most popular kites there are out there. In my experience it also has the best windrange for the wind we seem to get in this country.

And also when the wind is slightly higher or gusting people still think that they can hold this kite down.

You have to know your limits and when your'e nearing them. A gust could be as little as 3 or 4 mph more than the wind your flying in but that can be enough to send you skyward.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. It's not all that sore sitting about but i need to get moving and get on with the stretches. Hopefully won't be out for too long. The crutches are great though, can't wait to cover them in stickers and sray them :D

B - Thanks for the warning about your accident. Can we have a little more info about what led up to it? Wind speed, gust range, site, your level of experience etc? I think that might helps others avoid the same fate or worse. It's important to learn from mishaps. Ted

hi

i was flying my blade ii up on the grass and all of a sudden my dad tells me someones broken their leg. the wind was quite strange that day and quite gusty.

hope you make a quick full recovery and keep flying!

Hey Big Al, bad luck mate! hope your recovery is painless and quick.

You do realise you've at last broken the West coast duck, so far just about every thing has happened on the west coast and Crosshouse Hospital has been well used to date, nice to see it getting shared around the other health services ;) . At least you should be well healed by the time the warmer weather comes in :)

I know its not the thread for this really but the Blade doesnt create the damage. My mate broke his femur with a 2.1 LD. I crushed 2 vertibrae resulting in paralysis of one arm with a 6mtre ld. Severe concussion with a 2.2 Elliot. Since Ive flown Blades, no accidents at all. I learnt respect for one thing. I think Blade flyers maybe do push the limit a bit more than most other kiters. Maybe I said. Good luck with the recovery.
