The sail of the strike 2 kite is made of a polyester ripstop like most other inflatable kites. The reason for this is that polyester stretches much less than nylons do, weight for weight. Having a low stretch sail is important as this helps maintain the correct shape when the kite is loaded (flown).

I rode the strike 2 13 metre with a 5th line yesterday. What a kite! The kite is rock soild in the sky and with the 5th line depowers really well. The centre line range has a lot more affect than it did on the strike 1 making kiting in gusty conditions enjoyable! I never thought i would say that! The increased depower definitely gives you more confidence on the water and makes skying it easy. It does muck up your landing though as you go to land and then realise that your still 6ft in the air. I can live with that!

Big up Henry for designing a sick kite!

cheers

Ali.... you are a very talented young rider and we are very stoked to have you on the team taking it apart in style but a materials expert you are not so just keep it cool, study hard, improve your spelling and do your talking on the water.

Your own Caution kites are lovingly made by Ezzy using the finest quality Teijin Polyester for their sailcloth. As Flexi Moderator #3 was explaining... Polyester fabrics are more resistant to shrinking and stretching, dry quicker and are also less prone to wrinkle and crease. This also translates to sharper response and a cleaner foil on LEI kites that are subjected to heavy load. By comparison, kites using Nylon feel noticibly softer and more spongey and the canopy will show visible signs of stretching and creases over time, especialy around seams, areas where ripstop meets Dacron (the heavy duty polyester based fabric of your LE) as well as perhaps most importantly the trailing edge.

Nylon does have a very slight advantage as far as resistance to UV degradation goes but modern polymer coatings on quality Polyester make this very marginal so unless you live in the gobi desert and kite evrey day, all day, it won't make any difference. Nylon is also slightly more abraision resistant but that will also make no difference to every day use of a surf kite.

End result is a kite that will perform better for longer and will hold a higher value when you come to sell it second hand.

Keep it lit young fella.

caution kites made from left overs from the ezzy windsurfing room - no waste in that sweatshop - so were happy to help you cos you have no friends at school

ali work harder at school cos your dum

..and when you kite smashes into the sea wall when your diy leash snaps the kite will not bust as badly and you can ebay it....again

Blimey, its like the aliB and nemo show in here.... could make a cartoon out of it. Bitter and twisted old ex-windsurfing school teacher makes it his one goal in life to bait a talanted and laid back 14yr old kite grom with a bright future who takes him apart kitesurfing...

... 'if it wasn't for you meddling kids I'd be the king o' south shore'

... and I know you are just excercising you grumpy old man sense of humour but before you throw Dave Ezzy's lengendary name around in close proximity to the word 'sweatshop' you should be aware that you couldn't be further from the truth as far as kite and sail materials sourcing and manufacturing goes... This is a man that resigned his position on the board at North Sails in protest over a treatment of workers vs. corporate profits issue... do your homework teacher sir... http://www.ezzy.com/company/history.cfm
