Bigal Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Im looking to buy a new (bigger) kite in the near future after the winter winds have passed. Im wondering if i should fork out for a depowerable (eg Frenzy) or stick with fixed (eg a Blade) Not thought about sizes as I'm not sure how confident i'll be when the time comes? Any thoughts you be ace??????? Quote
craikeybaby Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 I'm making the move to depowerable, my Phantom is arriving tomorrow! I'll let you know how it is if I get to fly it tomorrow! Quote
Dominich Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 After the winds have passed? I think you may be waiting a while! Quote
Vespa1599968601 Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I'm moving onto depower too for boarding - it seems to be the way to go. Quote
BooBoo Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Am also moving onto depower to extend my ever inventive range of boarding crashes - have just bought a Gin Yoz 2 8.5 and am waiting for the UDS system and bar to arrive (come on.....come on.......come ON!!!) - haven't flown kite yet as too windy, even tho you can "depower" it with the handle adjusters think it will be too much of a handfull in anything blowier than a gnats fart - less wind please God!!! Yoz seemed as good as the Frenzies on the reviews but its always nice to have something different on the beach Will let you know how 1st flight is........................Oh, the delicious agony of having a new kite just sitting, just waiting in the garage!!!!! - its just like kiddies at Christmas!!! Offshore Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 What sizes are we all thinking of as I'm mulling over depower as well. A kite for all seasons!!!! Perhaps not - but some shared ideas would be great. What size Phantom are you looking at Craikeybaby (this is why I haven't taken you up on your offer on the 7m in addition to a timewaster from the EU on a sale I'm making!!!). Quote
craikeybaby Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I went for the 15m, should be good up to 20mph when I'm used to flying it. I am planning on getting a smaller arc too, maybe not a phantom, for higher winds. From what I've heard if you only want one kite a 12m phantom is a good bet, but I wanted a bit more range below and above the 12m. I'm sure someone with more experience will give you some 1st hand info. If you're ever down northampton way give me a shout and you can have a fly on my 15m. Quote
neilj37 Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Go for depower as it gives you a wider wind range. Have played with my 12m phantom in winds 15mph to about 28/30mph. They are suppose to fly from 8mph but aren't really any fun until you start to get up to about 12/15mph. BTW BigAl if you're ever around Aberdeen your more than welcome to give the phantom a go Quote
Vespa1599968601 Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I've gone for a Frenzy myself for several reasons. Firstly I always fly at the beach so gusty/turbulent wind hopefully won't be a problem - and with an 05 it might not be as much of a problem anyway. Secondly I know people with Frenzys and have tried them out - unfortunately this is not the case with Phantoms etc. Thirdly I often fly on my own and although people say solo launching/landing with the arcs etc is managable, I sure I'd get in a muddle and finally I had enough trouble getting the balls together to get a 10m kite - my self confidence wouldn't stretch as far as managing 12m, 15m or 18m of ripstop - the numbers are just too big:eek: Quote
flydad Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 - the numbers are just too big:eek: I suppose that stems from your scooter days, never got as far as a real bike then either (only joking! an old M&R thing) Quote
