Yesterday was the first freestyle landboarding competition, hosted by Airbossworld. The day was a great success, in spite of little wind - out came the 18m Phantoms and 10.5 Blade and some pretty cool tricks were pulled! Congrats to Geoff (Brine Boy) for winning the mens and Charlotte (AirbossCharl) for winning the ladies.

Some cool pics of the day >>>here

Didn't get placed myself:rolleyes: but then wasn't expecting to - was well chuffed though that I won my first heat. Well done to everyone who took part and big thanks to Gary and Elly from Airboss for organising it - hard work but it paid off! Thanks too to the judges, marshalls and kitebitches;) who ran around after us/froze their butts off all day. Top day, and let's see more comps!!!

not a bad day... lots of faffing around though...

...and dissapointing to see that the lasses seemed to get tagged on as an afterthought to the main attempt. Even then, the scoring seemed a little bit skewed - not sure the end result fully reflected the same comp that I saw...

still well done to all who took part - it was certainly entertaining...

One thing to say.

Sounds like you had a good time but next time a bit more notice plus not clashing with one of the biggest events of the year (x-zone) and im sure the event might of been truly awesome (not that it sounds bad).

There was a slight problem with that, yeah! I think Airboss had always intened it to be just a local competition (east mids), in the hope that, should the KLA get off the ground, more regional comps could be organised, as the BKSF kind of do, only with more regions. (Gary Grayston from Airboss is a BKSF judge)

In spite of the clash with events, a couple of the riders (Sam and Wes) did manage to do both.

...But there were only 3 of them! And one of them wasn't going to do it.

can you blame her? I'm not sure I'd have wanted to compete...

...and I certainly wouldn't be encouraged to come back for the next one...

What's the problem Graham? I thought you had a good day - there were only 3 girls so, they had three heats - a best of 3. They couldn't have the same structure as the men cos there were so few, and the reason it seemed 'tacked on' was that most of the men pre-registered for the comp before the day, so Gary and Elly could structure the heats.

Good event.

Sam was gutted that he couldn't compete in his final heat but the Phantom just wouldn't launch in that low wind:( :(

Ahh well. next time perhaps there will be 3 juniors so they get a mention.

Yeah, was very disappointing to see Sam have to bow out like that. If only there had been more wind, the Phantoms would have come into their own and we would have had a different competition.

On that subject, i was just wondering ( as total brainless on boading and comps).....in big competitions do riders fall into seperate catagories for kite size and type. Or is it just a case of 'Fly what you want and do the best tricks you can'

Kite choice would be up to the competitors, as long as it wasn't considered too dangerous by the judges. The only catergorization is age (juniors/adults) and sex.

I should probably point out that I'm not graham. I've expressed my humble opinion... I don't ask you to like it, or agree :)
