king_of_the_sky Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 so what if you dont have a ful set of kites doesnt mean you cant try no point giving up straight away just go to events and if the winds not right for your gear then ****e happens and wait till the next big event Quote
Tone Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 its not only about the tricks you can do!!! you seem to be able to do ALOT of stuff which is great, but there is alot more to it than that! photoshoots, articles, getting out at events! like king said, get to events!! show off and you will be aproached! Tony p.s. just cos you are sponosored doesnt mean you get shed loads of kit!! you shouldnt need more than 2 or 3 kites. Quote
Simon Bailey Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 As a "supported" PKD rider, I get asked this loads. The workload involved in being supported/sponsored is quite high, flying is actually only a small part of it. I spend 95% of my "kiting" time, talking to people, demo'ing the kites, setting up people's kites, showing people the basics of flying, talking about insurance, safety gear, sites, the public, answering emails and PM's (about 30-40 a day!!!!) developing new kit, modifying current kit, repairing and re-setting Busters, attending events and generally promoting the PKD brand.....the list goes on. I take this side of the sport as seriously as the flying, and have no problems in foregoing my own flying time, to do them. Being supported/sponsored is more about your ability to create exposure for a brand than your ability to pull the radist moves (although it does help!) Quote

Tony p.s. just cos you are sponosored doesnt mean you get shed loads of kit!! you shouldnt need more than 2 or 3 kites. The above is very true...I got sponsored and it sure isn't because of my sick ridin skills. Now, if I could only afford the kites I want. Quote
the_lone_wolf Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 it's not your only kiting that will get you sponsored, it's your attitude as well, thats what the sponsored riders i know mostly say, it's not a one way deal, for the money you may save getting free/cheap kit you'll spend a fair bit of that just getting to events and doing your thing for the sponsors, your job is to make the brand look good, no one will give you free kit if you aren't out there selling the gear to the public. go to events, get noticed, if you have "it" the sponsors will come to you:) Quote
kite chaser Posted September 27, 2004 Author Report Posted September 27, 2004 i was talkin to a shop and they said its if u get people in shops so ill send all my m8s in a shop and tell em to say i sent em worth a try:( :( NEb Quote
makka Posted September 27, 2004 Report Posted September 27, 2004 Be sure they will come up with what they are offering by way of sponsorship, what do they want you to do in return? Just get people through the door, get sales from those people or what? Is this just a way for them to increase sales in return for one free or trade priced kite? Be careful before entering into an agreement. I would have thought a serious potential sponsor would want to see you do what you say you can, assess your attitude, and what benefits you will bring to their brand / business in return for paying out for your kit. AliB Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 dont go around asking for sponsorship.its not what they want.i doesnt work. just keep riding and you will be found.thats what happened to me.there is no kiteshop within an hour of me and i fot sponsorship.someone on the beach just asked me Quote
Alex Brown Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 its not about what tricks you can do, its all about your style and attitude. dont ask for sponsors man, let them come to you. alex Quote
