Hey,

I keep reading opinions that blue kites and purple kites fly better than other colours. Is this based on some kind of science (fabric bettter/lighter or something to do with reflective properties) or is it just not true?

I'm intrigued!

Purple kites do in fact fly better than other kites simply because they are made from Purple™. It is a well known fact that Purple™ (pronounced Purr-Plee) is a lighter and stronger material than Rip-Stop Nylon and as such will make the kite lighter and give a better pull. It will also move quicker through the sky due to reduced drag.

However Purple™ is quite rare at the moment, there have only been a few limited sources of it found on the planet, most of which are in remote parts of Africa and the Amazon, although small quantites can be found in Cadburys Dairy Milk bars.

One avid kiter/scientist did actually attempt to make his own kite from the Purple™ contained in the Dairy Milk bars but eventually got to the point where he was so fat from having digested all of the chocolate that he could not walk to the end of the lines of the kite to fly the thing. This should stand as a warning to all those who would attempt to construct their own kite out of Purple™ that it should be left to the experts who can utilise the material under a controlled environment.

If anyone has any questions about Purple™ then they should visit the following website:

which should answer any questions they may have.

OK guys, I think I get the point. I really couldn't see why blue and purple would be any better. There's a post by Agger somewhere that goes on about the Ozone Samurai and that the blue 6m has taken longer to hit the shops cos it was only made by the top people in the factory. Just wondered if anyone could confirm this.

Sorry it is blue, of all those flying at White horse on Saturday it was teh blues that got teh biggest airs (just ask Rasga :)) The yellows were doing very good as welll (not in the same leguge) but don't bother with red ones, they didn't even bother to show up as they were scared of a whooping :)

My purple little devil pulls WAAAAY more than my red one. The purples a 4.5, and the red's a 2.1, but I reckon its the colour that does it:p

Also, I've got a Nasa Wing thats red on the left, green on the right, and always flies in circles:confused:

Yeap definately blue kite flyers know the best colour, even if i did get confused for a bit and think you were flying my kite. . .

Now just to make a kite that floats you down a lot more and you land on a crash pad too! (back getting better!)

PMSL some of the Blonds on here will believe that  ;)

It is a known fact that darker coloured kites do fly slightly better than light coloured kites. Why? Well look at those air-balloon things. Big bin-liners, nearly always black, which start to float when the sun hits them. This is because the air inside the balloon is heated up by the suns rays that are absorbed into the black balloon.

Same goes for kites. TLW saying that yellow kites fly better is clearly wrong, because yellow reflects more sunlight and therefore the air inside the kite is heavier than, say, the air inside my pur-plee Blade.

And pur-plee ripstop happens to go through a longer manufacturing process than any of the other colours. This extended process produces a smoother surface and a thinner material, so is not only lighter, but produces less drag when the kite is moving through the air.

An all-purple kite will therefore perform approximately 0.00002% better than an all white kite.

And if you believe that, you'd better give all yours kites to me because you're too dumb to fly!!

;)

P.S. No offence is intended NikB707...I'm always arguing with people about what colour kites are best, so it's fair enough that someone new to the sport might believe that different colour materials have different properties.

No offense taken!:) I didn't really believe it when I heard it thats why I posted this thread to try and figure it out. Now I know - and also feel a little stupid! Not to worry - all my kites fly perfectly well, so I'm happy.

Agger, were you serious when you said that blue ozones went through more stringent quality control than the others?

Aaaaaaaaaaargh, its probably all a load of balls!!

LOL. With time, like all of us, you will develop an 'Agger Filter', which can sift the pearls of genuine wisdom from the confused workings of the man's mind.:p ;) ;)
