A mate of mine dislocated his right shoulder on jump number one of AFF! Nasty stuff. Glad I always used a CYPRES! ;)

So do you not jump anymore then? I sadly don't - the last jump I did was number 182 in California while my wife patiently waited for me.

My best jump was definitely the one I mentioned earlier - a 17-way tracking dive at Netheravon from 18,500ft. That was incredible...somewhere near 2 minutes freefall. Lovely. :) Damn I miss it!

My worst jump was number 31 from 2,000ft (cloudbase that day) at Netheravon. I had never jumped from lower than 12,000ft before that (did AFF) and then suddenly I was expected to get out at 2k. I got out the door, panicked, pulled on my back and the pilot chute wrapped around my foot. Thankfully I managed to kick it off as I didn't relish the idea of deploying my reserve through a half-deployed main hanging off my shoe!!! All this just happened to be the first time that my wife came to watch and of course you can see everything from 2,000ft. Poor Sophie! You win worst jump though!

Stay in touch. You never know...if we get some money together one day we might go back out to Empuriabrava and get the wind back in our hair...

it'd be a crime to sell such an item of clothing! lol when u say £6 for max altitude. What exactly do you mean? How much it costs to be taken (flown) to max alt? £6 sounds cheap?

£6 for max is pretty cheap. In France it's more like £9, Spain £10, USA £12, England £17 up. Not too bad anywhere really but the expense in skydiving comes from buying the kit (£1500 up for a decent rig), membership (£200 for various national and dropzone memberships with insurance), reserve repacks (£30 each), and then jumps come on top of that for £17 or more in England. Doing 10 jumps in a weekend suddenly starts to add up! :(

By the way, there are a few photos here of a few of my jumps :)

Hey Tone "partners in crime" me and you. Its a good rush though knowing that you are flying around 40 ft off the ground, pitty you have no video of it! I would have liked to see that. The breaking strain on the Blade lines is 550lbs (250) kg plenty strong enough for me.

Take care buddy and remember the camcoreder nxt time;-)

last year when i was really going for the big jumps, i didnt have a camera or video camera, this year i have!

so stay posted :)

yeh it's like a lot of sports, the equipment can cost a bomb! Scuba diving is just another example. Did you have to do lots of traning to be allowed to skydive alone? When i've seen pics of skydivers before they usually have a buddy strapped to them.

To be able to jump alone I did an Accellerated FreeFall (AFF) course in Spain - it was a course of 7 jumps and cost £600 five years ago. Well worth every penny, as after that I was able to basically do whatever I felt like. I got into Freeflying - flying head-up or head-down vertically at speeds of up to 200mph. Beautiful. If you have the money then go and do it mate. By the way, have you checked out the photos I put here ?

misterlizard - why aren't you jumping anymore?

I've been toying with the idea of doing an AFF course for a year or so now, gagging to do it but don't want it to take me away from kiting that I am getting into more and more all the time...

Do the AFF course! It's worth every penny. Sadly though it will take you away from kiting...and eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. ;) Truly it does take over your life. The reason I don't jump anymore is because I don't have enough money. You see, the jumps themselves are cheap enough (£10 a jump in Spain and cheap flights to get there), but the other costs are too much. You pay £110 for British Parachute Association membership, £30 for Dropzone membership, £60 a year for reserve repacks, an average of £50 a year for rigging work, £1500 or so for a rig when you start out, £200 for CYPRES services (Automatic Activation Device...don't ask!), etc. etc. And I can just about stretch to £30 for a secondhand mountainboard after saving up for a couple of weeks. :( Ah well.

Anyway, enough of my moaning. Do AFF. If you need any info just let me know and I'll tell you absolutely everything you need to know - always happy to start another skydiver on the short road to total addiction! :D
