One of my mates arrived at the beach on a particularly chilly day with a brilliant pair of water ski gloves which were the business!

They felt like neoprene and were waterproof aswell as being a snug fit.

Thing is ... he bought them in U>S>A and i need a pair for this weekend and DONT want to spend a bloody fortune so any ideas?

Thanks

Not quite the same thing but my son uses Rugby stik mits to buggy in. You may have seen some of the England players wearing them - Ste Thompson, the hooker, for example. They are thin with a rubberised grippy palm. Would keep some cold off the hands but are not cumbersome. They come in a range of sizes and cost between £10 and £15.

I use a pair of gloves made by 'GUL', the wetsuit manufacturers, originally for windsurfing I think. They have soft leather-like palms with the rest being neoprene - grippy and warm though not actually waterproof. They're pretty good for buggying, though I also have a pair of full finger cycling gloves which work pretty well too.

I originally got the GUL gloves for sailing for which they were ideal so you might find soemthing similar in a chandlers.

I've had an idea though! Someone mention kayak gloves - not may kayakers (that I know) wear gloves because it interefers with the crucial grip on the old paddle shaft. Most (myself included) wear an item called pogies which are pretty much a pouch for each hand that fastens losely over the paddle shaft with a velcro closure at the 'closed' end. Your hand goes inside the pouch from the other and grips directly onto the shaft (oh er missus) or whatever. Sorry, that's not a great description and I can't find a decent picture on the web, see attched, but bear with me on this.

These things are far better than gloves, for paddling at least, and despite how it sounds they are much warmer, especially in the wet - we use them for paddling in Scotland, in winter, in near freezing conditions. Also, as they're attached to the the thing you're holding they're much easier to get on and off quickly to tinker with your kit and very hard to drop or lose.

Anyway, with a bit of tweaking they might just work on kite handles and bars. I'll give it a go next time I'm out.

Superb advice from you guys, had located a pair of great 3mm neoprene gloves from Crewsaver at £27.99 but settled on the Ron thompson neoprene gloves 1.5mm thick with splits on the first two fingers and thumb at a knock-down price of only £10.75 incl postage which is dirt cheap!!!

Thanks to vespa these i have duly ordered from sportfishing link as advised on beach zone thread "Grippy gloves".

Thanks also to the innovative Kayak/glove idea from Urchaidh also ( must be a great business idea in those if they could be developed for kiting). Will let you know how good the gloves are..........................

A thousand thank-you's
