FlyingManxMan Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Hi Guys, I'm from over in the Landboard section. However, some mates do kitesurfing and I definetely wanna get into it. Have been looking at all sorts of destinations and have decided Cabarete is the one, apparently it has best conditions all year round. So I'm gonna go out there in january for 10 days - 2 weeks. Will get some tuition though Ive been told if I master kitelandboarding I should have no trouble at surfing! Anyway, any info appreciated, can't wait to go! Ps. http://www.kitecamp.com is where I wanna lodge - looks wicked! Cheers Guys, ...a kitesurfer to be... Quote
HD462 Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Sounds like a nice place. It must be THE place to go for kiteboarding because Laurel Eastman has opened a kite school there too. They have a website here: http://www.laureleastmankiteboarding.com/ Quote

A.junkie Posted November 3, 2003 Report Posted November 3, 2003 Cabarete is a wicked beach. Gets the wind and the swell on the North of the island. Can't vouch for the kitesurfing as I was windsurfing at the time. Reef about 1/4 of a mile out can be pretty awesome especially if the wind is fickle. I saw plenty of people recieving tuition and they all looked padded up and safe with helmets and float vests etc. Some amazing locals there too!! Your major worries are sunburn and the local food. Be aware this is a very, very poor country and their idea of 5 star could be a little different to yours. Take plenty of sunblock and other precautions!! Wind doesn't usually blow till the arvo, so you have an excuse apart from a hangover to layin late! Enjoy Quote
