Hello everyone

Was wondering if anyone can give me some advice about the best way to use a harness? It just seems everytime i hook in the kite takes a mad turn and i end up eating sand!!

How many times should this happen to me before i learn to use it properly?

Any tips in general from the oracles out there about harness flying?

Is it best to hook in before sitting down in buggy?

Is it best to only hook in when cruising?

Thanks

Check your line lengths first!

To hook in you will probably need to pull your arms down as without the harness most of us end up flying at full reach. Once you have the handles low enough you should be able to snag your hook or roller with the strop without looking - this does take practise and doesn't always work, especially if like me you have a bit of a gut overhanging the spreader....

More practical is to briefly take both handles in one hand and hook the strop with the other hand - it should only take a couple seconds, but if you don't want the kite to take a dive, you really do need the lines to be the same length! Also take the kite to the zenith for this - personally I find it easier to put it to one side of the zenith so I know which way it's going to slide down the window so I'm prepared to recover it from that side if necessary.

It should only take a couple of sessions to get the hang of and always hook in before getting in the buggy - it's really difficult afterwards as anyone who has had the strop slip off the roller whilst moving will testify! In fact it's worth hooking in and static flying for a few minutes before sitting in the buggy to make sure the harness is adjusted right and you are happy with the kite in the wind.

Buggying is much easier hooked in, but you might want to unhook if you are trying to learn 2 wheeling or other daft freestyle moves!

i took ppl's advice on this forum & learned to buggy without one 1st

2 yrs l8er & i started to use mine. it took some getting used to but now i can hold on to much larger kites and can simply steer out of trouble to prevent obe's

i tend to launch my kites whilst harnessed & sitting in the buggy. that way there's no fiddling around trying to hook up on the move which can be difficult when flying overpowered
