iancl1599968601 Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 Just don't do it without safety gear!!! I broke my wrist 4 weeks ago and have another 3 weeks with a cast. You can imagine what it would be like to fly a kite with a broken wrist. Ian Quote

sulpeel Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Ooocha - going to hurt I'm lucky because my local park contains a grass bowl - cum - stadium type of arrangement. Being of tiered slope construction I had lots of fun learning to ATB one 'off wind' morning. My dislocated shoulder has 8-9 more weeks to heal! I found ATBing to be fairly straight forward once the trucks were set to provide a more predictable ride. I think it is important to tighten the trucks initially as a more stable platform helped me to learn more about keeping my weight in the right place and how to turn (or turn with some measure of control). After a couple of hours of going up and down this little hill I had a go at riding switch and it took me all of 5 seconds and about 1mph to dislocate my trailing(?) shoulder. I have yet to see people trying to point out safe ways of getting out of bindings and off of boards in a hurry. Two hours does not make me an expert but I reason you will last longer if you try and fall SIDEWAYS, oh and don't try and learn from half way up a mountain! It's a great where's-the-wind-gone sport X-Man, don't let stupid injured idiots like me put you off of it. Cheers - Pete. Quote
JoeSchmoe Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 Once you're going at a decent lick of speed; about the worst thing you can do is try to jump off the board. The answer's fairly simple: Learn to powerslide. Being able to perform both heel and toeside powerslides will make the rest of learning how to mountainboard (landboard my ass!) a lot less painful. Have fun duder! Quote
windy Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 if you are using a board without a kite then its a mountainboard. if you are using a board with a kite, its a landboard. the second you get off a landboard, it turns into a mountain board. Quote
