rich h Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 i need a low wind kite for jumping and buggying but not sure which one to go for the 7.8 or the 9.0 m, i have a 4.9 but its not enough some days any idears Quote
psychotic_eddy Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 IMHO you would get more use from a 7.8 than a 9m. The 9m can be very slow to turn and in anything like a wind quickly becomes overpowering. If you are looking 2nd hand have you considered the 6.4m Blade This is a useful step up from the 4.9m and will get you moving in lower winds than a 4.9 but still turns reasonably quickly. Quote
Adrena1in Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 My 6.4 is okay in low winds, (around 3 or 4 mph), but my 9.0 is obviously far more powerful. Psychotic_Eddy's right though, in much above this the 9.0 could be way too much. My 9.0 is on VPS though, so may be okay in winds like this, and according to others a VPS'd Blade turns more quickly than one on cross-over. I guess it just depends on the average kinds of winds you go out in. Quote
sexybum25 Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 I have a 6.4m now and I used to have a 9m. Yesterday was a day with little wind, but the 6.4m flew but with little pull. The 9m in the same wind would have been giving me little jumps and plenty of pull, and I must say that the turning isn't all that bad. Quote
civics Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 I have a 6.4 and a 9.0 I fly the 6.4 in winds from 14-24 mph and i fly the 9.0 in winds from 3-16mph with no problems at all,,well apart from the odd brown stain lol So i would go for the 9.0 Quote
folber Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 u wil get more use out of the 7.8 cos u can handle it in higher winds than the 9 eg up to bout 20-25mph depending on weight and stupidity! the 9 wil turn much more slowly however jumps in the 7.8 are amazing and v floaty Quote
Muttley Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 extremekiteshop are selling both sizes cheap to make way for the bIII's. dunno whether their web site has been updated with the new prices but i was buggying there today & they tried to flog me one... muttley prefers his raptors tho Quote
frenchy178 Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 9.0!!!!!!!!!!! Just cause its a great kite. i love it. Quote
HiAsAKite Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 7.8 are very nice, floaty kites.... turning them is not a problem since you either turn them with a little brake, or if VPS'd (as mine), this sorts out the problem. Never flown a 9m so can't really compare.. anyone flown them back-to-back? Quote

We must get out in decent conditions some time and try...I've decided to keep my 9.0 a bit longer. Went to the beach on Friday, but the flags on the flagpoles were horizontal, so I thought I'd try the 6.4 instead. Good thing too, it was nearly static lifting me at one point, and I was getting nice floaty jumps, only around 5 or 6 feet high, but sometimes travelling about 15 or 20 feet across the ground. The 9.0 would've killed me! Quote
bigrob Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 The 9.0 would've killed me! Can I send your missus my address and phone number. If the unfortunate happens I want first bid on some cheap kites. She obviously wont want them lying around if you're gone. I would let her use one to wrap you in, inside the coffing - but 1 only!!!
