I was thinking of the Thule 914 which can be seen here http://www.thule.com/frames.asp?id=8590 any help, advice or anecdotes would be appreciated. Quote
Guest spiderman Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I have put two more straps on the top of my old bike rack (just in case) and this now takes two buggies on a 60 mile round trip to the beach no prob, OK I take the wheels off when carrying both otherwise the whole buggy just sits on there wheels and all no problem - you'll notice the height of the Multipla helps here though - it means race buggies are held high enough not to drag (or be in danger of dragging) along the motorway If I can carry a really heavy cameleon this way it will take two of anything else easily:D Quote

bridbuggy Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I use a different rack as I haven't got a tow bar on my hatchback. My rack sits over my rear window and is secured with straps. I can manage two buggies without any bother. I put them on upside down with the front wheel marginally over the right hand side as you look at the car from the back. The excess strapping is sufficient to hold the buggies down too. Quote

I take the point re the adjusters (or rather anyone getting too close would take the point ....) The axle however is not wider than the car and I put a number plate on the back of this as well I suppose I could cover them with foam tubing? S Quote

I guess Volvo's do have that reputation so no offence taken mate, it is a T5-R though (310 bhp) so it is great fun leaving boy racers standing at the lights! Quote

Guest the guvnor Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 the only accessory that ive seen that might be of use from thule is a plaform mounting for the r-rack range. its basically a huge aluminium square with bars that goes between the cross bars. u can strap buggy to it if it doesnt fit the standard bars... to be honest i end up breaking my buggy down for long journeys. the only piece that goes on the roof is my axle as its too big to get in the car. all the rest fits in the boot in bits... burgy Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I'm a firm beleiver in putting everything in the car. I dont like the idea of £1000 of buggy out in the open in some of the areas where I have to park. Also the drag on the back is massive at any decent speed. Its cost me an extra £10 each way with the PLcomp on the back of the 205 over a 3 hour trip. I've put everything in the car since then. Mind you going through wales on the a & b roads during the week with out the speed limiter in the passenger seat might explane the lower MPG. burgy buying a van. Quote

Strap on, the give in the tyres holds perfectly. If the buggy is too big, turn upside down and strap the buggy to it. Quote
