I love these holiday threads now making an appearance, we work so hard and long for that special 2 weeks away, and so often it ends up as a nest of compromises, and for me that has ended in me cutting my losses and coming home early, either to return to the comfort of home, or to catch some wind, or both.

after all these years I am still looking for the perfect location, for not to much money, great food, dreamy accommodation, reliable winds, cool nights, even cooler beer, sights to gawp at, nice locals, no hassle transfers, hygienic, safe, sea view cafes, little traffic, no tacky souvenirs,no english pubs, no cops with guns.

no garden signs which declare "trespasses will be shot"

not much to ask methinks!

still looking,

just booked for two weeks in May, in a luxury villa for 8, (for 2 of us) special price deal of £450,

flights £440, car hire £120 special deal, place--

Famara, (Caleta de famara)

big kite beach, with waves, no kids. no one selling beads.

sea view from our room.

4 bedrooms, (ideal after a fall out, or a night on the garlic bread)

4 showers

1 hot tub

4 restaurants that sell freshly caught fish,

hippy style local town that lacks tarmac,

views to gawp at.

cool nights,

warm days

cool beer

locals---??

wind stats --?

no tacky souvenirs

no shooting trespasses

no traffic

easy transfer, villa agents pick us up, sort our car, and have even sent a mug shot so we can recognize them.

what can go wrong??

gulp!

5 weeks to go.

already booked again for 2 weeks in january, so it better be good.

I have been to most of the well known kitespots from Cabarete, Brazil, Tarifa, Jamaica, Barbados, Hatteras, Egypt, France, Dakhla, canaries...etc... For me then stand out spot is Cape Town. You first rock up in Cape Town and think "jezus its crowded on the water and just strong megalooping weather" but there is so much more to it when you go exploring. If your temped go this year as the "Rand" is really low, you can eat out in the evening for £5 and get a beach side room for around 15 euro/night.

The real reason it stands out is there is so much more to do when the wind doesn't blow, you have a huge array of other sports, travelling, great food etc... Great weather.

S'A' been there as well.

stayed at bloomberg in a hotel next to the beach, great holiday, but would I go back?

no, never felt safe there.

that where I witnessed the garden signs warning you of being shot, where a cop on the street was showing some young kids how he would respond to a threat by drawing his gun and bracing for an aim, he was outside on of the many kitesurf shops I had a look in at.

but one of the main worries was fearing being eaten by white sharks, there was an attack not far from the main beach just around the point at a beach called shark bay,and then an attack on a holidaying couple who hired a car and stopped in a lay by, again not far from the same bay.

food was outstanding, sailing was interestingly different, and at times great.other times scary.

Pauline loved the place, but its not for me.
