benbaron Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 Hi all Looking for a trip away - all inc for the missues - pref surf out the hotel - anywhere springs to mind in Cuba or Mexico? Good hotel with stuff for kids to do...thinking mid to end of October You know the usual - take family away and get some sessions in. cheers Ben Quote
mad_cath Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 mexico/yucatan is better from January onwards, until May. Baja is good from November, so you might be chancing it in October. i think same applies for Cuba but both have some great spots! Quote
benbaron Posted August 5, 2015 Author Report Posted August 5, 2015 Any hotels spring to mind that have facilities on the beach? cheers Ben Quote
mick Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Blimey, its like a deja vue thread timeslip from 2014. OK once again. Ive just got back from a couple of weeks in Playa Pesquero Cuba. The one thing Ive found on all of my trips to Cuba is.....a. the wind is 99% of the time from the east. b. There is very very little safety cover and c. the mossys bite like shit after dark and in the rainy season. Guardalavaca and Cayo Gullermo would be the favourite for kiting imho. These are the only 2 safe, sandy locations I know that are not offshore. Sure you can kite Varadero and many others but you'lle be on your own in cross off conditions. Cuba is great for the kids but generally, outside of the hotel is very uninteresting for kids. Oh and its ten hours going and 8 back on the plane. A 100 quid to take your kit. Buy a ten quid fishing rod off ebay if you decide to go. Quote
benbaron Posted August 7, 2015 Author Report Posted August 7, 2015 Hi Mick - deja vue it is Its again the missues - no we are NOT going back to eygpt....fuck says I.... ok - looking at the locations - playa pesquero - is this not cross off as well? but wash up on shore further down? What facilities do the hotels have? kite centre? compressor etc or is it not a lazy mans kite? Quote
mick Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 The wind at Pesquero is predominantly cross to cross off. There are no facilities for kiting and when the conditions are great, they close the rescue facility. This covers catamarans, pedaloes and canoes but they will keep their eye on you should you ask them. Unfortunately, good for us means they've gone home so you're on your own. Also, there is very little safe downwind landing spots should the wind drop. Oh and also, there's a zillion locals in the water. BUT !! Like I said; buy a fishing rod and have a great time fishing. AND nowt to do outside the complex. What about Turkey? Quote
