thanks Sammy...

if I get a surfboard that's a bit smaller than the right size for me would it ride slower coz it would sit lower in the water, or would it just not plane or be ride-able ...just thinking about speed management for my first attempts ... don't want to go off downwind Polaris style ..

Size doesn't make any difference. You edge the board and fly the kite to control your speed and direction just like a twin tip. A slightly bigger board will make learning to gybe easier. As a rough rule pick a board that's about the same height as you and get on with it... My only tip for riding would be to move your back foot forward of where the back strap is to go upwind efficiently, don't be dragging the tail through the water!

thanks gonzo ...

I read something about if you use a smaller board it will cause drag, but I got ya point ...

also I've been told I can get a non kite specific board as the fins play a bigger part of direction than the edge.....

I'm currently looking through all of the second hand sites for a board ... I'm only 5'5" but was looking for something around 5'8"... and the thing I've found is the more I read about boards the more questions I have ....thanks all for all of your advice, as usual you have been a great help .....cheerz....AL....

If you go with something non kite specific it'll work fine, just make sure it's pretty strong on the deck so you don't put your heels through it after a couple of hours. Pop outs like the Bic boards are cheap and fairly indestructible, whatever you get you'll figure out how to ride. Time on the water is what you need.

If these are the boards/construction I think they are I really would not advise getting one, they are just not stiff enough, if you want cheap look at the BIC boards or secondhand.

There must be a stiffy joke just bursting out of Mick right now!

I bet he's getting frustrated as his fingers won't type quick enough to be the first responder :)
