jon barrand Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Hi all, Apologies if this is a really stupid question but is there any way I can use one board to learn to kitesurf / progress on a cable with? I can't afford to buy a wakeboard and a kite board and was wondering if there was something that would work as an ok crossover for now Thanks for any feedback Jon Quote
AirBanners Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Hi Jon If your goal is kiteboarding...buy a kiteboard. Kiteboards work well on a cable for learning the basic board skills (balance, turn, carve etc). If you bought a wakeboard, you're kite progression wouldn't be as fast. Quote
Tjah1087 Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 its more expensive to buy one that works ok for both than it is to buy two different boards. Quote
Antigrav Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 If you're only going to ride cable occassionally then buy a kiteboard and then get a cheap wakeboard off ebay or something. If you're determined to get a crossover board as tim said it will cost you, probably to the tune of £500 new. Boards you're looking at would be: aboards w series, flexifoil hadlow pro wakestyle board, cabrinha custom, best profanity, wainman joke. I'm on the w series and love it for kiting, it's ok for cable but I still prefer a proper wakeboard cause I ride cable pretty seriously now, probably 60/40 kite/cable Bindings are another area which will cost you if you don't look around for the right deal. Personally I'm all about buying new if I can cause boots are really personal so it's important to get some which fit you well Quote
Silveringsurfer Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 If you are real beginner just learning to ride then you can ride any kiteboard on a wakeboat/cable. Obviously wakeboards are twin tips so that style is better and the boards named above are designed for wakestyle freestyle under a kite so would be the closest in performance to a wakeboard. However they are not the easiest board to learn to kite on. I would buy a freeride twintip. It will be easy to learn to kite with and would work well enough on a cable to learn the basics - ride and carve around, jump wake etc. I agree with the rest that a discipline specific board would be better once you progress beyond beginner stage. jon barrand Posted June 12, 2011 Author Report Posted June 12, 2011 Thanks a lot for the responses. I think that I'm going to find a second hand wakeboard for the time being, as I see me spending more time on the cable this summer. I'll add a kiteboard once the GF has forgotten about the previous purchase. Thanks again for the feedback Quote
