kite_neil Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 Hi All, Sure this has probably been discussed before but I am confused as hell - trying to sort out a kitesurf holiday for sometime October / November - seem to be conflicting views on where in the world to go to - my main worry is finding some wind! Am still pretty much a newbie at this sport so just want some time on water practising riding around - so far I have on the list Brazil (Combuco, Prea), Vietnam (Mui Ne), or Egypt - although Brazil seems to have pretty much gauranteed wind every day? Anyone got any advice??? Will be travelling on my own I think so looking for some like minded folk wherever i end up. Any advice very greatfully received Cheers N Quote
chase Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 Mui Ne is fickle and windier Dec/Jan and we still had 5 days with nothing in the windy season. hear good things about Brazil. I think Egypt again is better in the Summer and can be a little fickle in our winter. How about Morrocco? closer to home and super windy, its on my list of place to go. Quote
goofz Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 looking at wind statistics and generally having a research online I found that cape verde is a possibility for the months you are thinking of, although January to April are the best months I think it is also the time when there are heavier waves and shore break in mui ne so maybe not beast for learning I cant wait to go to Brazil next year, when I go I will be travelling alone as well so this seems a great place to do it - no idea on time of year specifically but the season is July-December/January so looks a good choice Morocco is a 'one-away' trip - middle of nowhere in Dakhla staying in tents with expensive alcohol... puts me off it! mkratty Posted September 25, 2010 Report Posted September 25, 2010 cape verde can be good in early winter . just have a look on wind maps ect as once it kicks in it good untill early summer .best kiting holiday ever.. Quote
gravyboat Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 There's a good thread called somthing like world winds by month. Says where in the world it's windy in what months. It's quite hard to find by searching because of the title but they won't sticky it. Try have a look for that Quote
mvandijk Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 I'm starting a kitesurf school on October 15 in Sao Vicente (a Cape Verde island) - so I'm not impartial. For a near guarantee of good wind to learn every day (> 90% chance 11-25 knots), I recommend Sao Vicente and Brazil. Quote
stig31 Posted September 26, 2010 Report Posted September 26, 2010 hey i am also doing a solo trip in october for a month but ended up looking at mancora peru there are 4 spots within an 40 min drive and its always windy in one of them and cheap as chips plus good waves also manta in ecuador is windy then i think did 2 months there last year on a $30us a day budget beer food and bed easy san marianita is the best nearby beach also very good for learning good schools and about a 4 mile long sandy beech Quote
badgb21 Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 Dahab has been getting a good review on here recently- see thread here http://forum.kitecrowd.com/kitesurfing/dahab-185757.html Stats look pretty reasonable too; Dahab Wind & Weather | Waveriders You just need the stomach for it! vinny Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 I looked into Dahab, guaranteed wind but always off shore !!!! If your thinking of Egypt give Moonbeach in Ras Sudr a google. Huge man made flat lagoons, lots of schools and accomodation around there. Looks really good but would do some research and looks like some schools dont allow you to launch off there spots !!!! worth looking though i reckon, also try kitebeaches.com may give you some ideas and info....
