Not been kiting long, and reading replies on this forum, it seems like Kiting is a mostly male pastime.

Or am I wrong?

BTW, this isn't a veiled attempt at stalking. I'm quite happy with my non-kite flying other half.

I'd love to know the actual demographics - no idea how it would be possible to find them out, though.

When I bought my landboard (from a Skate shop in Cambridge), the owner was bemoaning the fact that skating tends to attract a very 'uniform' type of person, almost all of whom are male. Kiting, on the other hand, attracts people from all walks of life, including a lot of women.

Don't know what he was basing the anecdotal on, but I thought that was pretty interesting.

Internet forums of all kinds seem to be very male dominated (with some obvious exceptions), so forum activity is going to skew the apparent gender mix. There could well be a lot of female kiters around with no internet presence at all.

I think forumming in general is lost on most women which is a shame, maybe its a bit geeky?, the other place i frequent has thousands of active users and out of them there are about 10 active female posters.

Or maybe it's because every post a woman make is swiftly followed by a request for "pics". Look at the thread Skye started about Kitesurf mag, and how quickly that descended into a general "tits oot for the lads" kind of affair. Fair enough, I started a thread about being single again a while back and touting for a new bloke and that got a bit of banter which was very funny. But sometimes it's like bashing your head against a brick wall on here!
