AlexFerraro Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 Hey everyone, I've been borrowing 2-3m kites from friends for a while now and finally have enough money to purchase my own. I was thinking of going for a 4m Cirrus Pro that's currently on ebay for £119.95 coupled with an Exit Sunrise board at £59.99. I know there may be better kites out there at this size, but the trouble is they're more expensive and I need to keep this set up as cheap as possible. There's also a 3m Radsail going for £90 and a cirrus pro 3m+Scrub Akashi board package going for £199.99. Can anyone offer any advice on this? My aims are for some decent speed runs, and after getting used to the kite progressing onto some jumping. Cheers, Alex F Quote
waZki Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Hi mate, Im not sure about Cirrus, but my friend bought Exit board new from shop for £50, one month later it is out for sell, not the best board to buy. I think you would be better checking "For Sales" everyday and Im sure you can find something cheap. I found my MBS Core 16 Deck for £20 lol. Check this guy http://forum.kitecrowd.com/showthread.php?t=172198 for kites! It looks like good deal. Quote
heres jonny Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 defintely get a slightly better known kite, the buidl quality is just a whole lot better to be honest go for something like a Peter Lynn hornet or Pepper search the for sale section on here for a 3-4m fixed bridle kite and ask the seller about it as for a board, i would get a scrub or MBS, Exit arent really a hardcore kite board, so when you start jumping and stuff it wont hold up like the other brands will which can be a big problem. you want to spend as little as possible, but to be honest, remember this, its a big outlay of cass at the start, for a good kite and board and helmet, but itll last you years, literally... the more you spend at the start the longer itll last and progress wih you as you progress in your boarding...i started on a Blade III 4.9, bloody scary, wouldnt fly above sort of 12mph, but up to the point i sold it a while back id fly it up to 25mph and get some big old jumps out of it...yes it was expensive but it lasted a bloody long time in perfect condition as for a board, i started on an old second hand MBS, it got rusty as hell and creaky and everything, but it stayed solid through nearly 2 years of solid abuse, now gone onto a Custom Kiteboard, but they are firstly, bloody expensive, and secondly, not made anymore so forget one of them youll only have to upgrade to a depower kite when you start jumping bigger and getting more freestyle orientated if you want to go that way basically dont look to save money, as itll cost you more in the long run having to buy better kit when you get better Quote
Dunc Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Avoid the Radsail if you can, i wasted similar money on one when i first started out. They are very limited power wise and are cheaply made. A friend of mine bought a PL Twister soon after i got my Radsail for not a huge amount more. He even had a ground stake and kite killers supplied as standard and the build quality is hugely superior. You do get what you pay for in kiting and it's better to spend that extra as your gear will last shed loads longer. If cash is tight trawl the for sale section as there are always bargains to be had. On the subject of boards i'm not a kite boarder so i can't comment too much on that subject but i did pick up a good solid MBS board off ebay for £30 last year which i use for pissing about on hills with. Would be fine for kite boarding but i prefer buggying as it's easier to pick up and you haven't got as far too fall when it goes Pete Tong! Quote
FiendishMcButt Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I had an exit board for about 18 months and they are ok to learn on but they are very twitchy on speed runs, also the foot straps they fit as standard are shockingly bad so your going to be spending at least £20 for a set straight away. I got mine 2nd hand with only a couple of runs done on it for £50 and ended up giving it away when i upgraded. If you buy a halfway decent board you will be able to sell it on if you upgrade or dont like it. Quote
Krazy Kiter Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 The cirrus pro got a okish review in PK mag. Basically said that it wasnt up to much, but at that price what do you expect?? however the kite below the pro in the cirrus range (forgotten what its called) got an awful review, i wouldnt touch one with a barge pole. To be honest it might be ok-the review had some praise for it. Personally if i was looking to buy a kite to learn from scratch on, i would try to get my hands on something like a FF Bullet or Ozone Sami second hand. Great kites, aboulsuty nothing wrong with them. Quote
Weasel Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Get somthing second hand by a better manufacturer. I got a Blade IV 4.9 for 180quid so if you look hard enough you'll definatly be able to find a 4 meter rage, bullet, or blade for you price range. As for the board, check the for sale section and buy scrub, mbs or trampa, maybe kheo as ive heard ok things about them too. but go for one of the first ones i mentioned. Quote
auto-photos Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 dont bother with the cirrus pro to be honest you can get alot better second hand for about the same price Quote
MuddyMrTimm Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 HQ are wicked kites and go quite cheap second hand. I started boarding with one of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HQ-Beamer-3-6m-Power-kite_W0QQitemZ250516262787QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportingGoods_Kites_Kitesurfing_CA?hash=item3a53eecf83 Good enough to learn in most conditions...still have it, still fly it. Nuff said... Most boards will do ya for a starter, any of the brands Weasel posted... I started on a KHEO Flyer. Upgraded to a Trampa about a year later. Just found this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/scrub-vapour-with-scrub-channel_W0QQitemZ290360741289QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportingGoods_OtherSports?hash=item439ad94da9 Hah, with those two links id say thats you pretty much sorted Have fun. captain caveman Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 i agree with this lot ... check the for sale section and dont be bothered by the "second hand" tag ..... most all my gear has been second hand ! your better off buying second hand quality than brand new tat ! i started with a trampa board but mbs is prob easier to get and you can get a good mbs board for hardly anything ....... i also cant reccomend a 3.5 rage highly enough ..... my first kite and lasted me for ages .... great first kite Quote
slide Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 get a second hand blade-the blade I's and II's are good value and you could get one for around a hundred -maybe slightly more or slightly less.....with a blade , as you improve it'll still be great, and will handle anything you throw at it........if you buy a cheap new kite , you will be selling it in 6 months for something better Quote
Weasel Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Just realized you live in falmouth too, Let me know when ur free and you can have a rag on my 4.9 see if its the sort of thing you want. Laters Quote
