MADB Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 After some recommendation please, I`m looking for a LEI to use on land in nasty horrible winds to pull my 85kg and a board around in 17+mph winds. Its got cheep up to £200 mark, so I guess 06/07 year, mid/low aspect kite. Has to have a very good safety and be excellent in the gusty winds with fairly good depower, no to bothred about massive jumps. So what size and what kite would you recomend . Cheers B. Quote
tsp13 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 i think your going to need more than £200 to get a nice kite, all your going to get with that is some old kite with loads of repairs. your best of spending a bit more money and seeing if you can get a ion2 or similar Quote
MADB Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 I would love an ion2 but it isn’t going to happen any time soon and I need a kite for this winter. Any one got any comments on the slingshot Link 10.5. Quote
Jafuzzer Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 ive flown a 9m link and its a very nice kite Quote
SCrowther Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 recomend a ion2. got mine for 300 but i am sure if you dig around you can get em cheaper. very nice kites. Quote
Tomzic Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Yeah, my brother got his Ion2 10.5 for 270ish? Lovely kites. Quote
MADB Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 Any other kite besides the iron, what the Best Yarga what are they like, lot of them selling on ebay. Cheers Quote
Gregga Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 the only thing with the ions.... they dont reverse launch. the yarga 07 was an awsome kite, C or Bow. stable yet good for freestyle Quote
MADB Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 the only thing with the ions.... they dont reverse launch. the yarga 07 was an awsome kite, C or Bow. stable yet good for freestyle The 07 yarga dose sound like a nice kite from the reviews, do you know what sort of cash do these sell for? any idea what the 9m 06 yarga is like? Quote
FiendishMcButt Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Got an 07 Yarga 11m for sale K/O for £200 ish posted The only reason i'm selling is it overlapped by my Waroo 9 and Bularoo 13 It's had one professional repair to the leading edge where a noob mate let it fall out of the sky onto a landboard. I've used it mainly on land and a couple of times in the water and found it really forgiving It comes with a 5th line kit thats never been used and the kite can be used in C mode or SLE mode. All the bridles, pulleys and spars are in good nick. photos here Quote
MADB Posted September 2, 2009 Author Report Posted September 2, 2009 What sort of wind range does the 11m cover on land in the SLE mode? Cheers Quote
tom wwestbury Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 12 or 15 fusoins awsome kites Quote
Krazy Kiter Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 the only thing with the ions.... they dont reverse launch. Not really a problem, they are easy to relaunch anyway. I'd say find an extra £100 and get an Ion2 - trust me it will be worth it. Be careful about older North and older Best kites - the build quality was awful. Much better with the new kites though. KiteDeck Dan Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 agree ion 2, you wont look back, yes thay do re launch ! Quote
FiendishMcButt Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 I used to get moving at about 12 mph, Jumping at 15mph and had it on the beach at Brean in 30 MPH (i'm 75kg) On the water i took it out in 35mph gusts Quote
FiendishMcButt Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Don't ask me about C mode as i never flew it like that ) Quote
dhole1412 Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 just as a warning against the slingshot link, it has been mentioned a fair few times in the kitesurfing section, have a look, the thread is called "worst kite ever" or words to that effect!! i havent personally flown it, but im sure they give reasons!! Quote
Antigrav Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 ive flown a 9m link and its a very nice kite Maybe go read the worst kite ever thread, the link got a few mentions in there, a few people are well keen on them but they are in the minority. If you want lei advice try the kitesurf section, quite a few landboarders have only flown the leis they own so have nothing to compare to. Yarga = bad kite, thats why they dont make them any more, apart from the team yarga, which is just the 06 in black......and it wasnt a good kite the first time round Quote
MADB Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 Cheers for you help, still no idea what I will get, I will see what come up over the next few weeks. Cheers B. Quote
g3legacy Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 Some good choices (all my opinion of course!) Best bularoo, waroo, the 2008 was good, flexifoil atom 1 or 2. Ion 2 and 3. Ive had both and they were nice kites for land. The ion 3 will reverse launch, the normal ion 2 bar doesnt really want to, but you can modify it so it does. You can launch, relaunch them pretty easy will a little practice anyway. As far as the other stuff goes - ive heard the link it total shit. The best Yarga is mainly a C kite so wont be that friendly, especially in crap wind. Other than that - you said the wind your flying in is really gusty, most LEI's are going to be dodgy in bad wind. You wont get thier full potential. My ion 3's are terrible if the wind is really gusty. Maybe an arc of depower foil like a manta/frenzy would suit you better? All my own thoughts, so take with a large pinch of salt haha Quote
KermitStu Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 i would deffently go with a hybrid that not a bow kite and not a c kite something in between they tend to be better over all in my opinion and i have stuck with them since i first tryed one they are great on land and on water my own personal choice has been the blade vertigos amazing depower and considering i live in the furthest most place from the water oxford its very very good in gusts as well. but by all means there are others out there and if you can try before you buy all the better Quote
eazyrider Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 I used C kites for years and recently went to Ions (Hybrid) and have flown Slingy Links and Revs, Best Bula/Waroo, North Rebel, Bandit Dos, Flexi Ions/Atoms and a few others and the Ions are the only ones that pulled me from C kites. If you can blag a few goes on various kites then do it as some I hated like the Dos and Rebel some where ok Roo's and Revs and the Ion was the one I went for when my 12m Rhino went rip after a bad crash. So it really is vital you fly before you buy. Quote
azbree Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 if its really gusty you want a hybrid with pulleys like naish shockwave as an example ive used ion2s inland and wud never swap my core riot for 1 although i ride a gust location and i hate my core in the sea and fink ions are good at this as they hav the grunt factor but you dont need this on land ,its not wats best its wats best for your location, also if your spot s ok for hybrid that have no 2-1 depower dont over look vapor i prefer these to ions myself and cus airush arent that big in the uk there overlooked alot Quote
hankster Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 ppl keep recommending ions there's far better lei's about than ions cheaper too eclipse make a nice range cheap, but go for an sle/bow/hybrid far more stable ans easy to fly. Quote
