Chinny Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Well I finally had my first proper spankin a few weeks ago when I decided to try my 5.6 Twister in +10mph winds. After flying static for about 20 minutes, I was just starting to think that the wind was picking up, and maybe I should land it when Whoosh! A massive gust came in and lofted me straight up! “I’m gonna die !!!! WTF do I do??? “ I thought as the ground suddenly looked very far away. You’ve guessed it – I’ve never tried jumping, and my first experience is 10ft of unintentional air. “Don’t stare transfixed at the ground you idiot. Redirect (just like they say to on that forum) “ This was my next panicked thought, so I looked up at the kite to notice that it was rotating over towards upside down. “Noooooooo!! ” Too late. The lines went slack and down I came with a mighty thump. Collapsed and rolled with sharp pain in the right ankle, and a good thump on the left shin. Fortunately nothing broken (ego excluded), and the foot is starting to feel good enough for me to fly again now. So far I’ve only had my beamer out since, but I will not let the twister beat me. Am I right that it takes a knock or two to increase the learning curve? I have the feeling that I made a couple of mistakes that I don’t want to repeat any time soon. Quote
crazyman Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 well done for not breaking anything did you enjoy the rush that came after? imo i would say yes... you do need a few knocks as if you dont have them... you get cocky - and you also now (hopefully) know how to reduce damage when you land. just be a little more cautious and try to keep your frame of mind and dont panic if you get lifted next time just be a little faster to redirect Peace out and happy jumping Quote
GIBBYDMG Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I am getting more and more impressed with you Crazyman you are actually giving some damn good advice there keep up the very good work. and as you say peace out Albert in Quote
festa Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 cool man the bumps teach respect for old mother nature Quote
captain caveman Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 can i just say the redirect only applies when your making the kite do the jump ...... if you were simply lofted then just keeping the kite above your head would have been fine ....... maybe applying a little brake if you find yourself swinging under ........ dont panic next time just have a look up at the kite and see where it is and keep your movements smooth . and have fun ..... thats whats its all about Quote
Chinny Posted August 11, 2009 Author Report Posted August 11, 2009 Thanks for the advice guys. I'm gonna start doing some practice jumps when the wind is right to get used to mid-air control. And avoid gusty days from now on Quote
