ok so basicaly i want some sort of case to fit over my nkion d5000 so i can stand in the sea and take shots of kitesurfing. something fully waterproof so it can get battered by spray and if dropped it wont get wet. Ive seen the dicapac's but theres a few reviews online saying it leaked :s

any help? cheers

hmmmm, what is it that makes you say its not amazing? and is it the slr one that you have? theres a shop that has the dicapac ones that i can try my camera in it was jsut the reviews saying it leaked and broke cameras that put me off, but then again there are the same reviews for the aquapac one im confused

yep, its the slr one.

for starters the plastic is too stiff, its difficult to hold the front close to the lens of the camera so if your not carefull you get the rim of the bag in shot - also on a smallish lens if you dont push the front of the bag back the lens can start trying to focus on water dropplets and stuff. its also really easy to accidentally knock a setting button through the case but a nightmare to find the button and put things right - if missed countless shots where the button has been knocked to turn the timer on! The shutter button is difficult to feel through the bag and once youve located it its not that easy to press.

the last couple times i have used mine i have found a tiny amount of water has managed to leak in.

basically if your not overly precious about your camera and accept there is a chance its going to drown and you want to try taking a few shots from the water then go for it. i dont think its ever really going to be possible to achieve near pro results from one.

I'd never put my camera in one of those. I've had first hand account that aquapacs leak after a few uses well for me they do. Was kayaking down a few rapids got turned over a few times had my phone in an aquapac got a little damp inside it didn't even get submersed so i don't understand how the water got in. This was after a few uses but i still wouldn't trust one to put a £500 camera in.

I did see a guy using one in fuerteventura ( http://www.spot-shot.com/) and he had one of these in the water and he got along alright with it.

Like the guys said above if you don't care to much about your camera use one.

cool cheers for the help, looks like it will hold up well. only thing im worried about is the image quality, do you think it will be affected lots? looking on a website http://www.lazyblueskies.com/wp/wpg2-2?g2_itemId=7272 it seems to struggle quite alot with the sun. am i just being to picky without spending 2 grand on a hard case?

if you want full waterproof and dont want to spend 2k then why not go for a divers camera like the nikomos. its a nikon can be got on ebay cheap and you get slr quality without spending lots of cash .Oh and its a film camera so you even get real photos

i considered it - problem is it seems to get decent shots form the water you have to take a fairly machine gun approach to taking shots. 36 exposures doesnt give you much chance of getting a really good shot
