what is the best technique and sequence to kiteloop on land as i quite like the way i look at the moment, but i want to get looping in 20 knots plus.

should i just yank one side of the bar, let it go past 12 and round so it yanks me off the ground. or jump high and then send the kite round the trailing side, or send the kite up past the zenith and then back across and down to get more float?

HELP PLEASE :D

both ! i find when, just yanking one side its way more aggressive and u land hot, much smoother when sending it to twelve then send it all the way around once u got a bit of height :)

"or send the kite up past the zenith and then back across and down to get more float?" thay feel sweet too

the safest way to learn is to just go for it. sounds stupid but the loops with more power means the kite gets to the top again an catches you so you get a smoother landing, fast but no big thud.

should i try and get a small air and then kiteloop? or just go straight into the kiteloop? cus i was watching some of the lewis wilby video's and the kite just starts to go on the downward of the loop as he lifts off the land. so he must just sent the kite all the way. but then i aint exactly Lewis Wilby.

when i loop. i have the kite at 2 o clock, then loop it, making sure the kite loops past the zenith and down through the powerzone, then back upto the zenith.. i dont jump.... then loop, i just loop it. I find trying to loop the the kite when the bar is 1/4 of the way out works best as the kite has a bigger loop and will feel more powered.

needs to be strong wind orelse the kite wont catch you after the loop and an LEI smaller than 10m

in some ways, the stronger the wind, the safter as in the stronger wind, the kite will loop faster and catch you quicker, giving you a fast, but soft landing

seems to work ok for me -

but u will need 20mph + for it to work well.

pic is of alex gibbins doing a kite loop today ...

prob best bet is to try in lower wind pop a jump and get that bar round to turn the kite

this was on a ion 4 in 15 mph

If you go into a loop as soon as you send it, with plenty of power it's gonna be really powerful an pull you as the kite goes down. if you do these half heartidly its most likely to hurt when you land if the kite hasnt reached the top again. if you loop when you reach the top of your jump, the loop will not have as much power however it can sometime drop or pull you near your landing making you off balence. either way you learn theres no "safe" way. Looping on lands pretty dangerous.

It clicked for me in 20mph or so on my 8m doing average loops by going straight into it. a big gust came in an i just went for it in the gust, the kite got the the top and i had to start down looping it to stop it overflying. this gave me a really controlled landing.

my best advise would be to commit, try it first on a medium sized kite in low winds just so you get the feel of the loop then try it on small kites in higher winds

love that video gregga, seen it loads of times. what do you make of the ION 4? i'm looking to upgrade my quiver.

cheers for the advice everyone, i'll have a go at them if the winds get 20 knots over the next couple of days, plus i've done them in 30 knot winds on water, with pretty epic wipeouts, hence the caution for land.

had a couple of trys on my 12m in 13 knot winds.

to which the landing didn't go so well, and from what you've all said, just need to go big in big winds. and i think i didn't face my board down wind so i didn't roll out of it/

Love it man. The hangtime and speed of them is awsome. Had my first play on the 8.5 2 day. That kite loops like fuck. Sooo quick and powered.

yup; my smoothest loops to date have been on a 6m

in that much wind, as soon as the kite is travelling upwards after the loop, its catching you and softening the landing (even though its not overhead)

get used to landing fast though

ahhh.. i want to kite loop but at the same time it scares the shiit out of me.

I have never seen anyone kiteloop on land or with a foil. so its going at it blind.

I'm hoping that when i have a session with butch he will bust out some kite loops so at least i can see them in the flesh before i go for it.

James for gods sake put some armour and a helmet on. particulary if you are attempting powered moves like this. it will only take one bad landing and smack on the head kill you or turn you into a vegetable.

looking at your pics your talking unhooked loops then?

advice: 12m kite, 15mph wind, unhook, get the kite to the top of the window, then loop it. If the kites not high when you start the loop, your more likely to get destroyed.

sorry i was talking hooked in, just cus it was light winds that day wasn't getting much when hooked in, cheers for the advice everyone, went out yesterday and really got into the looping, just want a 25 knot wind now :D

haha, well i was out today when it was hitting around the 20 knot mark, and all i was doing was looping, sod backloops frontloops and grabs and foot outs, loops are the one for me. cheers for all the help guys!!! if i manage to get my dad down with the camera i'll pop some up here.

After looking at your pics......put a fucking helmet on....

number 1) Don't be so offensive.

number 2) I'd be far more worried about breaking my neck when landing on my head than I would getting a grass stained noggin. So, thanks for the advice but if I choose any safety equipment it'll be a nice sturdy leash and a neck brace  :)

lproctor - Cool, so he'll have a broken neck and brain damage!

Sounds fantastic.

Gizmo's not being offensive as such, just trying to make sure people stay safe when trying something new.

Tricks and loops might look all bravado without a helmet, but when you fuck one up and land on your head, you're going to look way less macho in a wheelchair dribbling from one corner of your mouth.

I've experienced what a helmet can do to help, considering I got knocked out after a heavy landing wearing one. Without it, I hate to imagine what kind of mess I would have become.

jamesrtp - good luck with learning the loops!

!

nice way of looking at it. but not being offensive, how can you not find "put a fucking helmet on" not offensive. like he's some sort of kiting GOD

yeah i had a great session yesterday, got my biggest loops in to date, one problem i did find was when i landed my board would wobble frantically, do you ride with your trucks done really quite tight? or am i just facing down wind too much and need to land edging a bit? i'm riding an MBS core 8 if thats any help.

Its up to you but seriously when learning kiteloops on land a helmet will stop a trip to casualty and more than likely spending the rest of your life thinking I wish I had put a helmet on. In a kiteloop it is very easy to get disorientated (I know from experience) and all it takes is one small rock that you never see impacting on your head to cause irreversible damage. I am not saying you should all wear helmets all of the time but when learning kiteloops on land you are risking your life by not doing so...but hey its your life not mine.

Am I being offensive....no just making sure you read the post.

Kiting god.....no....just someone who has a lot more experience than you.....take it or leave it....its up to you.

Nuff said and good luck with your ventures

James - start edging as soon as possible after landing. It's just speed wobble you're getting - easily solved by edging against the kite, or even throwing yourself into a powerslide.

I'm not going to say anything else about the helmet thing, I'll leave the decision with you lol

ok i'm not a kite loopist but i know about wobble.

yes lean back carve upwind and the wobbles will stop. tighten your trucks if thats not an option.

ps i would ahve killed myself about six times over the years (with various sports) if i had not been wearing a helmet.
