9m vegas £929

9m fuel £949

9m hadlow pro £970

9m HIFI comp £1049

9m torch £1219

there's a bit of a jump with naish even compared to other high-end kites

edit; and from what i can tell if OR did a 9m it would be less than £900

i havent put them in the list simply 'cos i have no idea if their C kite matches up to any of the others in terms of performance & quality

for fucks sake, that bar price is wrong it has been adressed before on other forums as it is in that discussion. the shop got the price wrong simple as that.

oh by the way slab of beers to the person that geusses out of which of the above listed brands is going to have the biggest price hike?

simply though there were two choices for 2009, maintain the prices at a similar or small increase to the 2008 prices and have a massive cut in margin and sustainability, but hope that exchange rates were going to pull you through mid way through the season so that you actually could make a living.

or

increase prices inline with exchange rates on the basis that if things get better that can be reflected in the retail price to the consumer.

so what happens for 2010? well exchange rates remained on the floor all the way through 2009 and still are to be honest so the companies that kept them artificialy low are now put under pressure to actually recoup some of the margin that they lost through the 09 selling season, what does that mean to you guys, well £300 prices rises per kite if the rep i spoke to is to be believed. and the worst bit for you all is that the exchange rate is currently better than it was by nearly 20 cent in the dollar.

so yes our prices were 'outragous' but it was for stability and sustainability rather than a quick lets gain market share plan. 2010 will see far greater parity across the board on pricing between all the brands and in some cases, like ours prices may even go down as the rest of the industry goes up.

the other factor that does have an impact on final retail price is direct sales, import and distribution of product by the same person (they will earn double margin on everyone that they sell)does the brand have representaion in the uk or is there an agent that ships in from europe, it all adds or takes away costs, all i know is that there is no right or wrong answer and there will be plenty of changes in the coming months as the industry work out the best way forward to get kit into the market at the best price while maintaining a level of sustainability so that the sport can carry on growing.

Being new to the sport i am no expert on kite prices , however i do know i have never had so much fun learning a new sport ,and my total spend so far is less than a grand , thats a new (08) kite , nobile 555 board , and lessons.

Its been well worth the cost so far.
