Stu-82 Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Hi, Can anyone tell me how to avoid rotating whilst in a jump. I cant seem to avoid it. No matter what body position I have when taking off, I always rotate clockwise slightly if i go high enough and have to bail. Ive tried rotating the bar clockwise which helps me spin anticlockwise slightly but not enough. My other issue is that if I cannot direct the kite with one hand. Should I be able to direct the kite with one hand? Quote
wenglish Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 sounds like its the way your leaving the water, you could be getting the rotation from there. open your body out more, try to put a grab in as this can also kill the rotation by putting your body off axis. Quote
Bertie Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 are you popping off the water enough/ at all? Quote
Derek Rides Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 What sort of harness are you using, how high/low is the hook? Quote
fridazadilak Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Try not jumping with the legs and let the kite do more of the work? Works on the land! Quote
Stu-82 Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 I am leaving the water facing the direction I am traveling but by the time I get back to the water I have turned at least one quater turn. I am using a waist harness. Quote
wenglish Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 are you just edgeing or popping out of the water? like bertie says if your not popping then you will be entering a back roll as you leave causeing you to rotate. Quote
Sammy1599968740 Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Do watch the kite as you're sending it back?? I had this problem when i was first starting jumps on land. might be completely different. but as i watched the kite going through the zenith, i'd take off and my body would follow where my head was looking. As soon as you take off, spot your landing.. might help?! Quote
kiteingcolin Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 is your front leg lazy when taking off, and dipping slightly and the board edge catching a little as you take off, this will spin you, sometimes in choppy seas this will happen if you take off with loads of speed just in front of a breaking ramp, the water catches an edge and you end up all over the place, and sometimes overflying the kite Quote
harry_a Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 yeah you need to pop the takeoff.. i also find it much easier to keep it steady and also land a jump if i throw a back hand grab in rather than just doing it straight. i think it gives you something to concentrate on. might be worth trying to get that hand off! kyle2brown Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Sounds like to much weight on your back foot when you pop, carving the board too much into the wind as you initiate the jump. Try putting much more weight on your front foot. Quote
Stu-82 Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 Thanks for the info, Does any one know about my second issue of not being able to direct the kite with one hand (During a jump)? Quote
Charlie C Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 practice your rotations...that way you'll get used to rotating and how to control it/stop it. Quote
Pike Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Thanks for the info, Does any one know about my second issue of not being able to direct the kite with one hand (During a jump)? on your first issue; when popping don't rotate the shoulders away from the bar, ie keep the shoulders in line with the bar re issue above; yes, you should be able to redirect the kite one handed; most of my backloop transitions are one handed. Kite size will determine speed of redirection. With my 7m it's just a flick of the hand almost whereas with my 15m it's a good tug. When you try your first backrolls (intentional) you will end up redirecting your kite (unintentional) with your back hand. Quote
Stu-82 Posted June 1, 2009 Author Report Posted June 1, 2009 Thanks, I dont have a problem with backloops or frontloops or even back hand grabs whilst doing them as I just put more weight on my front had. I can't however do any kind of front hand grab as my back hand would not be able to re-direct the kite whilst powered up. Even if I hold it next to the depower rope. I have also tried having 2 fingers either side but that feels horrible. Quote
Marcus1599968658 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Accidentally rotating forwards when jumping is almost certainly down to not edging hard enough before take-off. Try to dig your back heel in more sharply as you start to send the kite. Quote
