tracker Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 I have a Naish Element 7.5m was out yesterday when I started the wind was blowing at 20mph ish but as my short session began the wind started to pick up to the point where i was getting lifted on full depower at the edge of the wind window. I droped the kite to my right but it kept pulling so I had to let go to engage the handbrake but even when on this i was still getting dragged along towards some rocks at this point my saftey strap on my harness decided to let go and away went my kite. Some poor unsuspecting kite surfer tried to catch it but was to no availe (thanks for trying whoever you were). Kite got tengled up in rocks but did not get ripped thank god. Good news is kite and lines are fine. But this has made me think I need better safty system. So my question is: Which bar system will be better than mine and what will fit my kite? Thanks Andy Quote
fridazadilak Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 As the Element was a clone of the 04 Ozone Frenzy, you might have the option of putting an 05 Ozone bar on it. I don't know much about the safety on the Element but the Ozone bar is super safe and a classic! Quote
Afro1599968737 Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 if a foil is dumped onto the two back lines, it will still pull down wind... how much depends on the wind i'd recomend either a peter lynn bar with a single line flag out OR making your own fifth line system Quote
tracker Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 The depower system looks similar to the naish kitesurfing systems of around the same time. Does this mean i would get away with the Naish UDS system? Quote
crabman Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 As Afro said you could have a go at making your own fifth line system. Have a look at Flysurfers website and I'm sure there's a bit about how to fit their system on to their kites. I can't see a reason it couldn't be done on any other bridled foil. Quote
Mini Michael Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 Peterlynn flagging out safety is really affective, but after your safe you've got to spend ages untwisting and untangling the lines. I can't imagine how irritating this would be if you used the same safety system on a foil. IMHO Quote
tracker Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 I have been looking at retrofitting a 5 line system but I am stuck at a point. Would I attach it to the leading edge or the trailing edge or just in the center. Quote
crabman Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 It would attach to the existing bridle connection points nearest the middle of the kite going from leading edge to trailing edge. When activated this system makes the kite fold, almost like closing a book, with instant power kill. Quote
tracker Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 Somthing like this ? http://file047b.bebo.com/20/large/2009/05/25/15/1233076118a10894539662l.jpg Quote
tracker Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 Found a good tutorial for a 5th Line system http://herschers.com/id1.html Quote
Afro1599968737 Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 not bad, but try this one... http://www.mangojelly.plus.com/gin/underconstruction.htm Quote
tracker Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 Cool i get the jist of it now. My bridle setup is the same athe the pic i posted so its gonna have to be either side of the center and 4 bridle lines each side. I will post some pics up if i am successfull. Quote
crabman Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 You're on the money mate Deffo post up some pics as this'll be useful to others thinking about the same kind of mod. Quote
tracker Posted May 26, 2009 Author Report Posted May 26, 2009 My kite is basicly frenzy so it should be good for them as well. I have scribled up some plans and mesred my kite up just need to fined a cheap vendor for the string. Quote

Pick one side (its not important which one) and just have that, having it on both sides of centre doesn't work as well - you get more pull when its leashed. Quote
tracker Posted May 27, 2009 Author Report Posted May 27, 2009 I see what you mean it opens up the center cell, Cheers Quote
