...how?

I was on a field trip on the Scillies and my tentmate decided to leave part of the door open during a raining night, so I woke in a puddle :( .

I was on a airbed so was fine, but my phone wasn't :( :( . It's had a few days to dry without the battery in a nice warm tent, and it's currently sat in a bag of rice, but didn't seem to want to charge or turn on. Anyone else got any tips?

take it apart as much as poss without destroying it beyond repair and dry it out but slowly IE under a light bulb, as drying it quickly will make the temp change and the metal/plastic warp.

Slowly does it and you'll be surprised how most things will be fine!

Yeah, don't get your phone wet:p ;) .

Or get a better tent mate?

The tent was fine, just so long as you zip the door properly :o

Will do kinny, cheers :)

Nemo, I think Martin was saying "get a better tent-mate", not "get a better tent, mate".

 :D

I'll second Atavar, I've had several phones drown (one even with hot chocolate) and the airing cupboard was the perfect place. Don't be tempted to even turn it on for at least a week. I did that with the hot chocolate one and that made a weird fizzing sound then never turned on again! You can remove the battery and if it has a changeable case/fascia remove that as well.

You're on a field trip so I guess you're at Uni?

Ask someone on a bio-science course (genetics, biochem etc) to pop it in a vacuum dessicator overnight, the same bit of kit they use to dry down DNA pellets after extraction. Worked a treat when I drowned my mobile.

Yup, at uni doing conservation biology and ecology, I'll take a look around the lab tomorrow :D Cheers :) . Airing cupboards are out, our boiler and tank are in a wardrobe with slatted doors, so it doesn't get any warmer in there :(

My little lad decided to drown a brand new Nokia 6500 in a pint of water, it must have been submerged for about ten minutes before the wife noticed. Took the battery out and left it for a few weeks in a draw.

Stuck the battery back in and it works fine again.

Good tip to remember if you ever drop it in sea water......

Get the battery out as fast as you can and wash it out thouroughly with fresh water.

Mrs Slog left her phone in the pocket of her kagool (sp?) and the water ran down her sleeve and onto the phone (she had a her hands in her pockets). It was a gonna.

She phoned me up at the time saying "my phones all wet and making a popping noise, can you hear it?" Close examination of the boards under a microscope found a lot of tracking, and components that literally dissolved due to electrolysis.

Yeah, this works with wine too. I spilt white wine on the wifes table cloth once & i quickly doused it in red wine. She hit the roof

Pop it in the microwave, full power for 2 minutes, that should dry it out nice and quick and will improve reception and battery life, and if it's a 3G you will be able to pick up Sky 3 for free.
