yes and Koma couldn't keep up. :diablo:

Zee Torch! She ist TOOOO powerfulz.

Oh i was going alright until Harry pulled a kiteloop AT me. He saw you (Tony) go past and assumed all was clear.

On those few runs i did do i was holding too much ground to get up to speed. Not sure what angle we were tacking at.

Perhaps next time when where isn't a traffic jam on the water. ;)

best run starts up river mouth.

jump sand spit.

crank up to speed

ignore other kiters

aim for rock groin.

slow down when weeds start dragging fins.

I forgot step 1. Stop making excuses.

I also forgot the secret passing maneuver. Get a kite line length up wind and then use a special bit of aerodynamics in the form of a boundary layer 6 inches in front of the nose of the kiter you are overtaking. :P

Did you have your GPS on at the time Tony and if so what speed ?

I only managed 39.9 km/hr (21.5 knots), reckon I could have done better if I didn't have to stop for the wall of kiters at the Easter end, but that's just an excuse isn't it.

Tony, were you the fella with the head band on?

Regards,

Norman.

it's a bandana thing that because i have my hair real short, keeps the sun off my scalp.

Also wear a red MotoX top which is brilliant for wind chill.

And my GPS was a victim of the fires, so No for any readings but I would have only be thinking 21 kts.

In fact I at the end of one fun blast I was about to stop and turn around to tell Koma that we were probably just creeping past 20kts.

But he was toooooooo far behind.

That was the run that Harry tried to rip my kite out of the sky with a kiteloop.

Yeah, definitely wasn't going very fast. I reckon i was going marginally faster after i had downsized to the 8m. I'll have to go for a bit of an explore when i've got a GPS on and do the same stretch i reckon i hit top speed on last time.

come on guys my grandma jogs to the toilet in rthe rest home faster that 20 knots and she has a dodgy hip.

i did do a 224 meter jump with about 15 kitloops tho.....www.brunotti.com/kitegame/

ok back to the topic.

Any stunning techniques for slowing down at warp speed?

Here's my current techniques.

Carve hard up wind.

or

lift the front up and skim along on the rear edge

or

send the kite back and aim to land on the moon.

or

get over powered skip downwind while arsechecking

or

rag doll.

or a combination of some or all of these techniques proabably in that order.

Just edge harder and you'll stop in a hurry. It's just like your loading up to pop, but you never release your edge.

The other way to stop in a hurry is to just butt check, but i can assure you that after a few butt checks you'll be walking oddly the next day.

i kinda like doing a long low speedy glide on the land. cruise along at 40-50kph and fire kite to the zenith and jump. time it right and its like zapping along on a zip wire. not to high, 5 or 6 foot or less but long. keen to do some of those on water too. be quite a good slow down after a speed run technique i recon.

Yeah, on land i use the 'throw the kite past 12 and use it as an airbrake' technique... but on the water i prefer to just edge harder and plow the water. Probably just me being a pansy and not wanting to land on my ass on the land. :yes3:

try carving upwind on the speed course at Sandy point.

bar out and flatten board and run towards kite. after you have looked behind to see who you can cut off.

or bar out, and stand hard on back of board digging tail in.

interesting concept ral. i will try it.

I've found a slither of flat water at high tide.

at a local river mouth theres a small island at high tide. on the lee wind side of the island is a slither of water 20 meters wide and about 300m long. upwind is land downwind is land run out is waves or bridge.

its nasty but will give me some butter smooth for several hundred meters.

If you look closely at the place in Africa where they do the speed runs, Luderitz I think is the name, the kites plane down a narrow channel in the water. It looks man made. Perhaps it was made to get a butter smooth run for the speed trials.

You're right, the African course and the french 'Canal' both are man made.

amazing what can happen when your run is set at the perfect wind angle, in a high wind direction locked by topography venue.

bruce bet my record at point hennry with 37.2 knt over 500m :fool:

can you get him to post a screen shot of the run download so people can see what is shown when you download a run from a GPS.

it was on camron steel s web site for wind speed records for windsurfers, it had a kite secshon. but the web site has been shut down now for about a year

went for a fang today in the wellington harbour.

9 degrees 20knots, wind chill was insane. lasted an hour or so before i couldn't feel my face, hands or feet anymore which made piloting the kite difficult.

any way i wanged some speed runs in the chop. (yes i know i need flat water) about a 1-2 foot swell with associated 20 knot chop.

i managed 41kph. i think thats about my top end in the poo on a twin tip with 40mm fins.

also did 20km distance.
