Morgan Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Hmm, I've tried Macs and didn't like them at all. The thing that gets me about the majority of Mac users is that they will go out of their way to slag off windows/pimp Macs. Seems the other way round in this thread... agreed Quote

Infact, thinking about it, I don't even mind Macs. Just annoys me when Mac users bum off them. spiky_dave Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Sometimes Apple goes a little too far on form over function.... A guy in our department has a MacBook Air. Now its very pretty, however, it's not a powerful laptop, really the specs are quite poor, before how much the thing costs. But that's not the best bit. He is always sat in our common room with it. To show it off? No, because the wireless modem in it is so poor he can only get connection sat *right* underneath the router. you can hook it up to a usb ethernet router, unfortunately: a) it's no longer portable, and b) its only got one usb port, so you need a hub too... Quote
The Geoff Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Yeah, the Air is on fanboi step too far for me - if I wanted light then I'd go for an iPhone or similar and VNC into something more powerful when needed, if I wanted a laptop I'd go with one that has an optical drive and proper USB parts etc. Both running Linux, obviously Quote
lewis1404 Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 i am an allfor apple, but i do think you must be mad to buy an air, you are paying more for less! its the same for all of the PC business machines, like the old ibm laptops, paying 1800 for something the same as a bog standard £400 laptop can do! Quote
kiter_ryan Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Im currently considering the Air. I can get one from the Apple Refurb store for £700ish, I have a USB optical drive currently ( I cant remember the last time I used a CD however) and I just want to feel like a complete 'dude' haha hrrmm or maybe I should spend more and use student discount on the new MacBook. Either way, I managed to bugger up my other 2 Laptops so I need something hard wearing, maybe apple isnt right Quote
Hillside Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 I'll just chuck my two penneth into the fray. I've just moved over to Macs having been using Windows for donkeys years and have noticed that there are two types of Mac users. Type 1 is just someone who needs a machine to do a particular job - music creation for example. My own need was that Photoshop runs much quicker on a Mac than a PC and was fed up spending more and more time trying to maintain my Windows PC (keeping it virus / trojan free, installing god knows how many updates etc.). Type 2 (and they are the majority), are the ones who essentially have more money than sense and think that by buying a Mac, have this false perception that they'll look good by having one. They're the ones with their Mac Air at the local coffee shop posing. Well if that's what they want to do, I say good luck to them and leave them to it. Now he steps back behind barricade awaiting onslaught from disgruntled Type 2 users. Quote

Don't forget, there are millions of people out there willing to pay over the ods for something apple. Quote
