The Bibbler1599968771 Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 I thought I'd start a thread........ so.... The Site Pontefract Racecourse is a large site that can accommodate buggying and boarding. The land is in the middle of the racecourse and is owned by Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. It is FREE to fly there. The area comprises of 4 potential flying areas....but that's not to say you can't fly across at least 3 of them in 1 run, in the right conditions. There are 3 flat terraced levels joined by gentle slopes( and steep areas too for buggy/board jumps!) There is also an area that can be accessed via a lane whilst still buggying onto what is effectionately known as Telly Tubby Land, due to the huge rolling dips and bumps-This area is off-limits when the RC plane club is flying. The site is home to the Pontefract Airbourne Kite and Buggy Club that have flown there for over 10 years. Wind Direction The best winds to fly at the site are West, North West, North North West North and North East-ish. Anything with a Southerly tends to be lumpy as it comes either over the Grandstand or over the few trees that are there. How to get there Straight off the M62 at junction 32, head towards Pontefract-the site will be on your righthand side. turn right at the McDonalds roundabout into the park entrance. Turn right again,in the park grounds, at the mini roundabout and follow the speedbumps into the carpark in the middle of the track. Parking Parking is FREE! The flying site is at the far opposite end of the carpark entrance. Rules PAKBC have a good relationship with the local council and through these guidelines, have managed to keep it as a flying site for many years. 1) Do not go onto the football pitches when the ground is wet. 2) Try to keep any moving kites at least 100m away from the public 3) Do not fly near the RC helicopter club in the top corner 4) Set up your gear in a group rather than just anywhere 5) Wear a helmet 6) 3rd Party insurance- The council have checked from time to time. 7) Do not park vehicles in front of emergency access gate- Some of the public do, and I do ask them to politely move. No Fly Days Check here before setting off. There is no flying allowed on race days. http://www.pontefract-races.co.uk The Council have only given access rights to powerkiting sports on this site because it has been run as a club, although you do not have to be a member to fly there. It is your responsibilty to make sure you adhere to the above. The council have the right to ask you to leave the site if they feel that the rules are being abused or you are being wreckless. If you would like to join the club send me or Antler a pm or ask to speak to Gary when you're there. Post away,peeps.... Thanks:D The Bibbler Quote
